Paint red NA hardtop black?

I feel like LIghtyear did some carbon fibre skins over the top of damaged factory hardtops way back when and he wasn't happy with any of them. I briefly considered the same and spoke with him about it at the time, and his advice was just to paint the thing and be done with it.

Yes, I think it would be very hard to get a nice finish. And then you'd wonder how long it would last sitting in the sun for a few years.

That's the one I watched. Close up the finish is rubbish, uneven and pock marked. Don't believe everything u see on the internutz.

Sanding carbon fibre is very dangerous; think asbestos. Just wearing a respirator whilst sanding through it is not enough. There will be dust everywhere well beyond the point at which you remove your respirator. And that will be a sh1t ton of sanding and dust. Where is all the dust going? Your clothing, house, garage, car, your neighbours' places, where you and others will breathe it in in the future.

When the military deal with an aircraft accident where carbon fibres may be present, they barricade the area, wet it down (with a water/PVA mix I believe), wear full body suits and breathing apparatus and do their level best not to disturb any material before bagging it up for disposal.

Yes, a lot of other videos warn u about the dust. I was very careful when cutting a carbon tube - respirator, glasses, gloves, done outside in a remote spot. Clean up with a wet cloth, then binned.
