Radio tombstone blanking plate
Hi,
This is an old chestnut. I've removed the stereo from my car and would like a blanking plate. The gap in my tombstone is 123mm tall. No, I will not change tombstones. No, I don't want another stereo or gauges, etc.
Hall Racing (too expensive delivered) and Roadster.net (website is dead) make a nice large, good looking blanking plate.
I can buy the 1 Din Mazda pocket (I have part no.) and a Mazda 1 Din Trim Radio cover (does anyone have a part no.?) but they add up to 4 inches or 102mm, leaving me a gap of 21mm.
Is there a good blanking plate to cover the whole area or just the area above the Mazda pocket (gap is 72mm tall)? I am looking for something nice which looks OEM.
Bruce

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
Bruce it looks like you need a 2.5 DIN (7" wide x 5" high approx) to cover the entire hole or a 1.5 DIN (7" wide x 3" high approx) to cover the hole above the pocket - here's some options:
2.5 DIN: https://mx5mania.com.au/collections/pre ... l-na-89-97
2.5 DIN: https://www.autolinkmx5.com/cubby-panel ... 9383-p.asp

Leaning towards the Jass 2.5 din panel (black). On backorder with Mania at an OK price. Does anyone have a used one for sale?

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
Hmmm, 2.5 din is 127mm tall. Actual hole size is 122mm. Thus the Jass 2.5 blanking plate is too big.

Hey Clubbie, do the above parts look Mazda oem to you? The car owner didn't know where the parts came from.

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
Bruce, don't think it's OEM, but it looks perfectly good.
MX5parts UK has this 1.5 DIN (I think) cubby holder - see pics for dimenions: https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/radio-cubby-mk1-p-119.html
Their website also shows this plate but not sure where it comes from: https://www.mx5parts.co.uk/dash-mk1-199 ... -2661.html

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
Thanks Clubbie.
Will visit Mazda spares to find that 1 Din plate. That 1.5 Din cubby may be aftermarket but will check with Mazda, otherwise order from o/s (which I'm trying to avoid).

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
Stan, there's heaps of variability with the parts and tombstone opening! It may say it fits but it may actually not.

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
And here's the perfect example for you Stan; the Mazda 1 DIN blanking plate does not come with screw mounts, it only slots in on certain grooved edge tombstones (?). So if I get it I will have to create a mounting system for it.

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
I've discovered a 3d print file for a full blanking plate. It's a zip file so I don't know if it works or not and I'd like the specs checked first.
Does anyone 3d print here or are the 3d print services on the web expensive?

Re: Radio tombstone blanking plate
Bruce, according to the following under revision history the size is 176mm x 96mm, & your post says you need ?mm x 123mm: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2006312
And maker does refer to it as 2 DIN whereas yours according to the measurements in your post is 2.5 DIN, which is what my 1993 NA8 is, ie 179mm x 123mm. I understand there's a slight difference between 1989-1993 NA6 & 1993-1995 tombstones which KevGoat provides pics of here: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=76963&p=936491&hilit=na6+na8#p936491
Btw, no idea how much 3D printing costs, but there's a few forumites on Ozclubbies that 3D print.
