Danny has been very busy with work, i'm happy to put in some seat time for him :mrgreen:
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

The below photos are of the trial fitment of the 355 x 32mm rotors.

This is the "race" rotor beside a standard RX-8 rotor (323mm x 24mm).

.....and they actually fitted!!!!

.....I couldn't help myself, I had to throw "Big Red" up there as well! 8)

Initial measurements are pointing towards the RH caliper bracket being just a mirror image of the LH. :)

This thread is like War & Peace only more interesting, i'm only on page 20!
I looked and looked, but could not find where you said what disc that was (the 355) can you tell me and do you know any other (smaller) ones which can be made to work with minimum of effort?
I found a Skyline/350z front disc has correct PCD and is 324 so probably fits in a 17", centre bore is too small, but no problem for someone with a lathe or mill.
Also, unless i'm mistaken it looks like the spines of the '5 and the '8 are steel in this thread. Mine is aluminium so it's confused me, that can't be right?

Great read so far, I know it's very old, but i'm still enjoying it. :D

Coincidentally, you've bumped this thread 10 years to the day that it was started! Well done :mrgreen:

Every now and then Danny teases that this car might come out again, we live in hope!

Can’t wait to see this finally done. Amazing build.
So much time, effort and money was spent to get it 98% complete (for WTAC in 2015? I think?) and then nothing since :cry:

Have much of the original plans changed for its 2022 iteration?

Thanks Rascal. The original build in 2013/2014 for WTAC 2014 was epic. Yes, sadly work life got in the way in mid-2015 and the project was mothballed until the middle of last year. The aero design was only 50% completed back in 2014. So I'm happy to say that it will be 100% completed this time round.

Yes, there has been heaps of changes since it was first assembled. Here's a quick list off the top of my head.
* Motec M150 with Drive By Wire (DBW) upgrade from M800 and cable throttle
* Holinger SG3 6-speed sequential with paddle shift - upgrade from Series 2 RX-8 6-speed H-Pattern
* 100% AMB Aero design completed...up from 50% completed
* External pressure pump for dry sump system - upgrade from just external scavenge pump stages with OEM pressure pump
* Wilwood Floor Mounted Pedal box - upgrade from OEM Mazda
* Relocation of dry sump tank to reduce overweight and plumbing lengths
* Diet....hopefully 150kg lighter overall including driver! :lol:
* Carbon hardtop replaces OEM (heavy) hardtop.
