NC GEARBOX
Hi all, just some advice I have a 2005 Limited Edition manual NC with 124,000klms that seems to be stiff getting into 2nd gear when cold. Once it is warm it’s ok. Read an article on Nulon Smooth Shift has anyone tried this. Cheers

Re: NC GEARBOX
Yes have used it along with Nulon GB oil in an NA with good results - slowpoke on here also used it along with Nulon GB oil in his 10AE & swore by it. Not sure what GB oil you're currently using but from JBT & Regie's posts, who are both NC1 owners:

Re: NC GEARBOX
I've got Castrol Syntrax ?( not sure of spec) in my NC1 at the minute and trying to sort out 1st to 2nd shifts, still find it notchy when cold.
Going to try Redline MT90 shortly and see how that fairs, I've read good reports from the USA for reducing 1st to 2nd issues.
When warm no problems with shifting at all, I'll report back after the Redline fill.
Cheers

Re: NC GEARBOX
The Redline is popular in the NB 6-speeds for resolving shifting issues. I am pretty sure that is what is in mine now, I've used in both road cars and the racecar.
I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Re: NC GEARBOX
I have Ford Motorcraft in my NC that the yanks all rave about.
Forget the exact name but in Australia it is labelled as for Ford Focus or Escape manuals.
From the factory manual for a NC.
API Service GL-4, SAE 75W-90
The above is why I did not go Nulon, as that is 75W-85.
I do a lot of track work and going to lighter oil in the gearbox did not add up to me.
Like all the advice has already pointed out, don't put in GL5, 6 or combo GL4/5.
They are different oils for a different purpose, not a better spec.
