Top Latch Cap 03-05 NB

Does anyone have any leads for these little plastic bits that are discontinued by Mazda? I looked on Flyin Miata, and the freight to Australia is $118 US for about 6g of plastic. The $4.99 ea is reasonable, but $59 of freight each is a little rich.

See what MX5 Parts UK charges:

Looks like postage would be around 3 pounds, so 8 pounds total for two delivered.

Let me look in my collection of catches. I'm not going to take one out of a functioning catch, but I may have a bent one that I could canniblise ... Mostly they have been tossed, but I may have kept one for spares.

I ordered one of these from Flyin' Miata the other day, but with a bunch of other parts so the shipping costs were a bit more reasonable per part. Unfortunately these are sold individually, not in pairs - which I didn't realise at the time - so I only have one! I guess I need to wait until I have another order to make and slip in the 2nd one.

Checked my boxes, only have the SEs latch set which I am not parting with or breaking up obviously. Looks like the other latches, good and bad, have gone to the tip/been sold.

Sorry, can't help.

No problems. Thanks for looking. I have emailed MX5parts (mentioned above) and the guy there reckons the pointy ones are not an issue for the later models. Going to print up a couple to test anyway, I know they will not be as strong as injection moulded original parts, but they should make my shiny new roof close better until the genuine ones arrive.

I never even knew these were a 'thing'....

Of course after checking mine one is completely broken and mostly missing. :(

So a follow up to this quest to find late NB top catch caps...

The older pointier ones don't really fit, but they do. They seem to have a slightly narrower opening for the locating lug, so they need to be pushed hard, and the screw put in at an angle and try to pull the cap onto the lug.

I tried printing the only file I could find on thingyverse, first with FDM, and then with SLA printing. PLA filament definitely is not use, it shattered as soon as I started tightening the latch, didn't really get to trying the SLA resin print yet, as my genuine ones arrived from the UK (along with a few other goodies from MX5parts). I am going to test out elongating the flat bit between the opening and the screw recess by the 2mm it seems to fall short and see if that makes it any better.
