Hi Guys,
I bought some X-Force extractors for a 10AE and want to extend my OEM O2 Sensor cables, to meet the lower location of the connection on the extractors.
I vaguely remember reading something in the past, about:-
1....using the same wire gauge size and minimise length (to reduce voltage drop).
2....'silver' solder cables
3....fit shrink wrap
4....fit suitable heat insulation
Has anyone done this successfully and is there anything else I should be aware of....eg...specific wire type etc.
Cheers,
Jim

Re: NB O2 sensor extension
Leave the O2 sensor cable alone and extend your cars wire harness.
There are 4 wire harness extensions available that are direct plug in.
Research.

Re: NB O2 sensor extension
Thanks guys.
Yes...I understand that there are extension harnesses available, but I wanted to explore the DIY option.
Does anyone have experience in doing so? and is there anything that I should know prior to cutting wires?
Cheers,
Jim

Re: NB O2 sensor extension
My 10AE track car was done before I got the car. I re-did the solder joints due to a short & used shrink wrap x2 on each join, then wrapped the combined cables in electrical tape. The extension wires are the same size as original section.
I don't think voltage drop would be a problem. My cable goes from the connection at the front of the rocker cover, around the intake side of the rocker cover & down across the back of the engine to almost the end of the extractors.
Cheers

Thanks RS2000,
I was hoping for a positive reply to the query...I'll give it a go and report back, in the coming weeks.
Cheers...Jim

RS2000,
As discussed...I cut the existing wires, Soldered on some suitable extension wire lengths and wrapped them in a heat shield.
All good.
Cheers, Jim
