2009 NC Auto - Manual mode not working

Postby Driver06 » Tue Aug 25, 2020 3:46 am

Can anyone help?
My daughter just bought a 2009 NC2 Auto and the transmission automatically changes up gears even when in manual mode.
It is not possible to hit the rev limiter in any gear, changes up automatically even when in manual mode at 6000RPM or so.
Not nice to drive, for example when in 2nd gear and accelerating towards a corner and reaching 6000RPM+ then lift off to go around the corner instead of getting some engine braking the transmission changes to 3rd gear. It also does this in higher gears.
How can I fix this?

My 2007 auto does not do this

Serviced the tranny? Could need new fluid and filter.

I have a 2010 auto and the one thing I would recommend is take it to a Mazda dealer ie a business that knows the unit. My local dealer said that they only use a specific fluid that is imported by Mazda - I actually saw the oil they used- its not a $50 oil and process. At the time I did not make a a fluid change and was advised by them to leave it alone- its working fine. It might be interesting to see if the paddle selectors work in manual mode. If the car has just been bought you would expect that if comes from a car yard then it has a " warranty " its just not acceptable that you cannot select manual / paddle mode. How many klms? If it was my car I would definitely talk to Mazda.

A PS - I did some research at the time about the right fluid and its not quite as straghtforward as it might sound - I visited a oil supplier who looked up some specs and said that a certain Redline product should be ok ( though not in stock) and that triggered the question to the dealer who showed me the fluid they import for this style of auto box. My conclusion was that if Mazda did not use another locally available brand / spec then there must be a good reason to stick with imported Japanese oil.

Worth checking the big forum if you haven't already as more NC autos on there:

Thanks for the responses.
The paddles only work in manual mode as normal and work properly.
I have spoken with the dealer and am taking the car in tomorrow.
My OBDII reader shows no codes.
We will see what they come up with.
I shall report.
