NA8 rust windscreen pillars

Postby yertimer » Fri Jul 10, 2020 3:42 pm

My 94 Clubman is showing signs of rust again at the bottom of the windscreen pillars.
I thought I got it all when I patched it last time (a few years ago) but obviously not.
This time I will go to a panel beater and get it done properly which will require the windscreen coming our (so probably a new windscreen too) and paint work.
The car is in Australian fading pink (been cut back a couple of times and so not much red left) so I might consider getting a full closed door respray while I am at it. Subject to price of course.
Any advice from those who have been through this is welcome!
Also...does anyone know a good repairer around Sydney Northern beaches?
Thanks

All NAs rust there. Yes, there will be more hidden under the glass (bank on a new one as it will likely break on removal, and a new window seal).

Get a quote- and then work out if its worth the $ to outlay on an old car.

Mr Morlock you're right. Whilst initial estimates say the rust is worth repairing as the car is in reasonable condition for its age a full respray is less convincing. Of course it's all subject to the replacement cost for another vehicle too. It's not a daily driver so I'm not relying on it, but it is still my fun car, and other than a newer MX5 it's not clear what i would replace it with. It's also not a great time to sell it as it's close to the bottom of the price cycle. It will never be worth much but it probably will never be worth as little as it is right now, rust included.

Yeah, probably worth keeping as you say given the alternatives - get a quote for the rust & fix if not too crazy, but not worth over capitalising in the car.
