Easy way out.
Wrap the aluminium with some vinyl; maybe stainless steel gunmetal finish?

Quite impressed with laser cutting.

There’s this option from d-technique Japan. About AUD200 before delivery.

Thinking of going this way mesself since I deleted my console (third pic) and are now running my window switches from the glove box.

I think this will win out, looks like there's some pretty acceptable matte silver wrap (like the AC vent surrounds) available on Amazon for $20ish.

I saw the D-Technique thing before I started on this project. I like it, but I don't love it. I like the way it looks and it was obviously inspiration for what I did, but I don't like how close it comes to the gear stick, I don't like how the dash has to be cut to fit the window switches, I don't like that you lose the little storage tray and I don't like how they look when trimmed. I also don't like that you just buy it and put it on your car - where's the fun in that?

Well v2 of the caps were a success. I added a tang and a bit of a spacer for the screw to the revised design to locate and hold them in place securely. Lokiel, they are printed in ABS - PETG went into the too hard basket when black ABS was sitting right at the machine!

I managed to track down some speed nuts for the top securing points of the plate, using existing holes in the lower dash. They fit perfectly.

I'm pretty happy with how this whole console delete is turning out and - if it wasn't for the gauges - it'd be a cheap project. Money cheap, not time cheap, that is.

Looks great!

I agree with your points on the D-technique solution not perfect and not cheap.

I’d be more than interested in a pair of the end caps to tidy up the look of my car if you’re up for it? Will pm you.

From the photo this appears to be a top solution. So nice, in fact, I can see you selling these. :D
Love simple good looking designs - only 3 pieces and some screws!

I'm no product developer, I make things for the joy of making things; I'll take the compliments though. I could possibly facilitate some kind of 'run' of dash bits if there's interest. It certainly wouldn't be a ready-to-fit proposition though, nor would I be comfortable making them for other people before I've finished mine and know the pitfalls!
