7. Reliability is a question mark. The P car is more complex, 986/987 have the IMS issue (mine has not been changed, but I change the oil every 5000km and inspect the old filter for contamination). They also have dual mass flywheels that should be changed with every second clutch. Valve guide tensioners are also a wear point.
8. All that said, my car is worth as much or more than I paid for it two years ago, and will continue to appreciate. My SP lost half its value over the 13 years I owned it. I loved my SP, but I love the Boxster more.

Have been browsing MY08 3.4L Boxter Ss on carsales, looks like $35-$40k is the ballpark for an average condition one (although the average is quite good being a Porsche).
It's easy to test drive an ND, but I'll have to look for a dealer with the right Boxter in stock to test drive.

I also found the performance increase to be relatively minor, although the adjustable steering column of the ND2 is a massive plus for me as I'm a smidge over 6'1". Thanks mate.

I would not be taking much notice of used prices on Carsales- almost certainly its negotiable where unfortunately people may be discarding non essential cars. A Boxster is a bigger cabin and more functional than the ND. - big guys height and weight fit in a Boxster. Test drives- don't bother with dealers there are cars to be dríven by sellers and no one who wants to sell a car is going to refuse a test drive.
Boxster is a name made up of Boxer and roadster.

Did see that one. Actually was looking at it when Essendon Mazda was selling it as well. Very quick turn around time for that owner from buying to selling.
Never got in touch, as at the peak of lockdown I wasn't sure if buying a car as a toy quite counted as essential.

The way I see it the ND was always marketed as going back to the original NA MX5 as far as weight and driver experience goes but it’s far far more refined and safer.
it’s actually quite incredible that they get the ND features with such low weight.
You really enjoyed Gregory (which was beautiful) and is most likely the experience you miss so I say go the ND.

Mazda reliability.
Huge aftermarket support.
Low ownership cost.

We looked at an X5 M (423kw!!) and Cayenne for the missus but went a top of the range CX5.
Heart wanted the euros, head went with the Mazda.

The NE & NF body codes actually went to the Fiat and Abarth variants.....

So the next MX5 will be a NG but that's a fair way off as the generations seem to have a ~10 year life cycle and the ND is barely even 5. :wink:

Well does anyone have sales performance on the ND worldwide? You cannot take anything for granted if its not selling up to requirements it could be axed though I doubt Mazda would give up considering what a success it has been since inception. As essentially a car for fun and not essential then new car sales may dip.

Now that Mazda doesn't have a Rotary sports car in their line up, the MX5 is really their only "Jewel in the Crown".

The other Madza models may be considered good->excellent, but at the end of the day, they just suit mass-market requirements and there are plenty of other competitors so there's nothing special about them.

While car companies primarily care about sales, they love to have a "stand-out" model that's immediately recognisable as their product, it's good for advertising their brand.

The MX5 is an icon and has been for 20 years now.

I suspect that there will be more MX5 generations to come (at ~8-10 year intervals).

I'd LOVE an electric-powered MX5 once they figure out how to make batteries lighter.

Regards buying a Porsche. People rarely daily drive them - only if it is a Cayenne SUV or a rich specialist GP. I can't see SMY going to the supermarket in a Boxster. Even MX5s aren't that common...

What about a supercharged V6 from Toyota, ala Lotus, stuffed into a NA or NB - seems to tick all boxes.
