Throttle Cable

[NA6089]

My NA6 has a stretched Throttle cable, so much that it's beyond the adjustment potential.

There seems to be a shortage of cables available on line. What are people using?

Is there an alternative from some other model? Or is there a fudge to get by?

Interestingly on the part description they state that the ones for the 1.8L aren't available from Mazda anymore.

If you haven't already, check inside the cabin where the throttle pedal pivots & mounts on the firewall as on the NA6 it's not uncommon for the pivot & mount to fail over the years, which might create the impression the throttle cable has stretched.
Btw, I note that you thought you had a stretched throttle cable back in late 2018 - see 3gress post mid way down following in response to that at the time to visualise the issues that can occur with throttle pivot & mount: viewtopic.php?f=53&t=77357&start=15

Thanks Clubman, I'd forgotten asking previously and sadly my spirited driving days are becoming fewer.

I'll compress myself into a smaller package and look under tthe dash at the area you highlight.

Removing the seat, which is only 4 bolts, greatly improves under dash access, especially if you need to spend time working on something, as you can lie on you back on the vehicle floor pan with your feet up on the rear shelf.

I finally bit the bullet and got under the dash and extracted one very second hand throttle bracket.

Thanks for the advice to check.

After stuffing around I discovered that the steering column needs to be removed, A real durr moment.

Reassembly was relatively straight forward, except..... reconnecting the steering uni is a proper sh!tfight.

End result is the pedal in the right spot for heel & toe,

Good to see you found the problem mate very common on na mx5s
The nb one is a straight bolt in job and stronger than na one. Or i have seen some people strengthen the na one up if you break it again
