might be worth asking your local scrutineer as to their take on firewall / fireproofing?

personally I'd box / seal around the filler-pipework if the cabin/boot bulkhead is removed as the tank itself lives below the car's structure :?

I'm in the UK and fiberglass is accepted as a suitable barrier (wrc rallycars set the precident for using self-adhesive aluminium tape (as used in industrial ducting etc.) as a liquid & flame proof barrier BUT this has a short lifespan :shock: )

Either talk to a scrutineer first, or do it and hope it gets through, and if it doesn't, do it the way it will get through. "It" being whatever takes your fancy, in the first place, and in the second place, whatever the scrutineer says is needed.

Criteria: cheap, quick, easy, works. In reverse order actually, although we might think otherwise initially. Can add lightness in there if you want. Against that, sticking with the factory top panel(s), and sealing the sides, worked for me. Aluminium tape on the underside closes the holes (put it on the top and it invites the scrutineers to object). YMMV of course.

And that probably exhausts my contribution to this question.

I'm talking about cars without any removal of the bulkhead. Yes the tank is under the cars structure, but the filler pipework is not 'sealed' from the cabin out of the factory. Apparently some log book scrutineers determine that the factory 'bulkhead' is not good enough.

Once the back stays are in, I will put together some sheet metal to seal this off on both sides. This is how it is so far:

Refitting the dashboard

I have been working on slowly trimming the dash to fit around the cage, to look as neat as possible. The windscreen pillar support bars make for a slow fiddly process. I removed the softer(er) dash skin which allowed some less precise cutting and trimming around the windscreen pillars which will be covered by the dash skin.

The dash skin is also cut in different locations to the main dash frame, which means that it will be able to provide some support/strength by bridging the cuts in the frame.

I cut the vinyl 'skin' with a sharp blade in the middle of each area that would be cut out, and then peeled it back out of the way. I removed the sections needed to allow the dash to fit around the cage bars. With some careful gluing, I will use the peeled back vinyl to refinish the cut edges of the dash.

I think I will have a shot at trimming the eyeball vents and triangular vents to fit the voids before I pull it all out again to paint the cage.
