Cracked box section

Postby Exbiker » Mon Mar 09, 2020 9:20 am

Hi All - this is my first post, having just bought a beautiful NB8.

My concern is regarding the aluminium box member that sits behind the rear bumper. It's about70mm square, runs side to side.

Mine is buckled slightly in the middle, and it is punctured on the rear face, & cracked full width on the bottom face. I'm guessing the car has had a low speed shunt from the rear, & the plastic bumper has been replaced but not the aluminium box member.

My question is, is this box member structural? Car came with brand new roadworthy, but maybe this was missed?

I would appreciate informed comments: many thanks

Bruce

Not structural.
It is a crumple zone for low speed impacts.
Legally should have been replaced.
If it doesn't bother you, just ignore it.

Great, thanks for that. It was what I hoped!

Depending on where you are (helps if you list your location  ), you can have one of my spare ones, for the usual price: small flat white ... :MOCHA_LES:

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

You may find actual body damage once you remove the aluminium support (where it bolts on may be pushed in).
