Found it - given you're considering turboing whatever you buy (which could be an NC), then it's good advice:

Thanks for all the input. I’ve sent an RSVP for the next coffee at the“Pie in the Sky”. With luck there will be a range of cars there and owners to chat to.

From what I am hearing different models have advantages and disadvantages but none of them should be dismissed. This is a little different to some of the “reviews” that I’ve been looking at online.

The thing that really appealed to me, with my short test drive, was that I didn’t really need to go crazy fast to have fun. I sounds like good advice to not get ahead of myself with engine performance modifications that maybe I don’t need.

Welcome aboard.

The great thing about the MX5 is really exactly that - each model has an appeal and characteristics which will suit people's wants and needs (unless those needs include substantail luggage space or carrying more than 1 passenger at a time).

I'm just (hopefully) finishing engineering on a very nearly 300whp NA with an SE motor swapped in.

But before I went overboard, I had the stock-standard 1.6 for over 6 years without touching it, and I never got tired of it.

Thanks for all your input in this and other threads - as well a couple of PM’s.

I bought a 2011 PRHT with Ohlins, a Roadster Sport Exhaust and an ECUTEK tune.

Well Done, Brad. They are not as pretty as an NB but the retractable HT is a big bonus.
Probably the best value and all-round MX5 to date.

The drive home is still happening! I flew up to Ballina to pick it up and rain delayed the flight a couple of hours so I'm only half way home. I proved the hardtop is waterproof after a few hours of rain and the exhaust sound great! It's quite low so I'm a bit paranoid about scraping but so far so good. Overall I'm very happy - it's great to drive!
