Haltech Elite 750 PNP

I am having a problem recently purchased a Haltech Elite 750 with the PNP harness for a NB 1.8 unfortunately it will not plug into the existing harness ... the car is a 1999 NB8A can anyone give me some advice do I need to go back to the NA 1.8 Adaptor.

Posting pictures of the adapter you bought would be helpful.
You may have bought an adapter for 01-05 NB? It's different to 99-00. If the connector on the adapter has 3 rows of pins it's for the later NB.

Yes it has 3 rows of pins ... I can’t find a 99 model adaptor on Haltech site

Having a quick look and you're right, they don't appear to have one.

From their site:
SUITS: Mazda Miata (MX-5) NB 1.8L Non VCT or VCT (00-04) 1.8L Factory Turbo SE (Aus), Mazdaspeed (04-05 USA) with 3-plug 3-row factory ECU. Manual transmission only.

but the 1.8 non-VCT (VVT) has a completely different connector. It uses the same one as the earlier 96-97 NA8 and is also the same as earlier NAs but with an extra third connector. The pin-out is completely different between them though so you wouldn't just be able to plug in an adatper for an NA unless you re-pinned the Haltech ECU side. Could be an option for you though?

Yes it has 3 plugs on original harness ..that is a bit of a bugger then the guy who is going to dynotune the car recommended the ECU package. So you would recommend to buy the early model NA adapter ..would it be a huge job to reconfigure the pins in the plugs. Maybe I just fit the turbo kit and trailer it to him to sort the wiring out.

Actually scratch that, I didn't think it through. That would only work if all the same pins were used on the OEM mating connector even if they were the wrong circuit...if that makes sense.

Looks like you'll either need to make a custom adapter or just cut and splice in the Haltech.

Might be worth sending Haltech an email to see if they do actually have the correct adapter.

Yes, email them. They may have one existing or can make one for you (and get a refund on the wrong cable).

Thanks for help guys...Haltech do not support 1999/2000 MX5 they do not make a PNP harness. I have found a harness in the US made by Boomslang hopefully it will do the job.

I'm sure there is, but it's a 2 year span so it would be less than for the other types. They'd just need to get a car in for development and it might not be worth the bother to them.

I was going to suggest checking out Boomslang, they do patch harnesses for a lot of vehicles, but I don't have any direct experience with them personally.

Yes I am looking at a Boomslang harness ..unfortunately Boomslang are not that great with communication I have sent several emails but not getting a lot of response from them. I have found the harness advertised on there site but the pictures that are with there harnesses are pretty much all the same for every harness and they say some harnesses use the existing ecu and just tap into the haltech, I don’t want to use the original ecu at all I just want the haltech controlling everything. It is unclear if the harness they supply is just for haltech elite.

I would have gone megasquirt or Motorsport Electronics who both do support the 1999 NB8A with a PNP setup but my tuner wants to tune the Haltech and he is relatively close by ...so I guess that is the way I am going .. I am fitting the AVO kit with the GT2560.

Definitely best to go with what your tuner is comfortable with. Sucks about Boomslang's communications, hopefully they get back to you with a positive reply soon.

I wonder why businesses have an email address if they are not going to respond in a timely manner. Same as an advertised contact number which you never answer.
If Boomslang (stupid name for a business) has a contact number I'd try ringing him. Calls are cheap to 'murica (I think it's Thanksgiving over there now).

I was looking to do this 9 months ago and was encountering the same problem.

One option would be to make your own patch loom, or else get one custom made for you if you're not comfortable with doing it yourself.

If you want to keep you original ECU plug (and not cut the wiring harness in your car) your main issue will be getting hold the connector to plug in where the factory ECU used to go. noisymime on this forum told me he kept them on hand and could sell me one for around $35 plus prostage.

Someone like GR Motorsport Electrics should be able to make the patch loom for you, but I'm sure there are others.

Option B would be to cut the ECU connector from the cars harness and fit the Haltech plugs.
