NC 2010 BOSE RADIO / CD NO SOUND

Postby Mr Morlock » Thu Nov 21, 2019 8:35 pm

The radio display lights up including CD but no sound. This occurred without any warning. Its been suggested that the amplifier has failed - its situated behind the seats. Fuse in the cabin checked and ok. Work to get the amplifier out looks very complicated with layers of things to remove and re install. .The amplifier apparently can be repaired presuming its the culprit Not sure if it would be easier to replace the radio and presumably use the existing speakers. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Amp is a good possible. According to following it's fairly common & removal is easy, but may be that's on the EuroDM &/or USDM NC2: https://boserepairexperts.eu/mazda-mx-5 ... r-repairs/
Fixing amp has got to be easier than replacing the whole system, which of course would still mean having to remove the amp.

Not cheap at GBP149 (including VAT) plus postage of the amp to the UK. They also advertise on ebay, except it's GBP170.50 (including VAT) plus postage of the amp to the UK: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MAZDA-MX5-B ... 2689740021

Supertech Electronics on the Gold Coast Qld also appear to offer a repair service for the 2009-2013 MX5 Bose amp, however the cost isn't evident: https://www.electronicrepairs.com.au/in ... gory/mazda

The catch is u don't know if the amp is faulty. U need a good one to swap out (which is a problem).

Got it sorted out after quite a bit of nosing around. Apparently its not uncommon for the amplifier to fail on the Bose equipped NC. I was given the name of a business in Melb via a Mazda service ctr - the service guy also guessed the amp was going to be the likely source- that was free advice. The referred co were able to remove and replace the amplifier with a modified lifetime warranty unit- i.e. they improve the unit and thus able to back it for performance : the Scottish link that 93 sent do the same fix. I was able to get it replaced which took less than 45 mins. The co is ASLautomedia.com The business is situated in Commercial Rd Lynbrook Melbourne 3975.
Its interesting to read about symptoms. One of them was a machine gun sound through the speakers and I remember a month ago of that happening - it was very disconcerting!
Incidentally this co does OEM audio work - that explains why the local Mazda service ctr use them.

Good result - how did they compare price-wise to the UK option?

The UK price ex works is about the same as Australia converted by the usual poor fx rate that we have with UK at present but far more convenient with a local source. Freight would have been an extra cost both ways plus timing if dealing with the UK supplier.

Interestingly the amplifier has an extreme price as a Mazda spare part and my guess is that no one will ever buy one.
