Any issue with the length of the leads (longer leads = more resistance)?

That's what I was thinking too. There would have to be some, but maybe it is offset by the benefit of reduced heat-related issues?

Only time will tell. They are a pretty powerful coil.

The thought was to place them there with keeping operating temps in mind.

SKYHI wrote:Well I can't say I've ever seen coils mounted there before........but why not :)

Reasoning as mentioned above.

ManiacLachy wrote:Looks like a good location for it, clean install.

Thanks mate, Daz has a similar mount with MSD coils he’s mounted in a couple of WRX’s and they seem to work pretty well in that location.

At this stage most of the extra wiring is in, hopefully its down to the tuner before the week is out to have the dwell time set, just waiting on the new leads to arrive now :)

those coils are twice as powerful as r35 gtr coils which would be more than sufficient for this build - so suspect any additional resistance from longer lines is entirely irrelevant. plenty of folks running 160 + whp per cylinder on r35 coils...

The new leads! I was hoping they would arrive today- so at this stage looks like next week to set the dwell time :DIY:

The new set up is almost all wired in and the 9mm Leads look good and the mounting location fits the coils well. The usual unexpected hold ups have seen things move a little slower anticipated, but the unexpected is always expected. So its off to have the dwell set in a couple of weeks, just in time for the upcoming dodgy day at Magpies

Something about the angle those photos are taken at makes me dizzy!

The bracket is really neat tucked over there. Just need a nice tidy routing of the wires to finish it off.

I won't be a Magpie's but I'll try to catch up with you soon (once my car is back on the ground and running).

Setting the dwell. Isn’t that something that should take like 2 seconds? Or does the tuner have to test them because dwell settings for these coils have not been published?

Cheers mate, that catch up should be on very soon :)

The old set up will still be in until I get it up to Matty. Daz is rigging it all up but Matty wants to be the one to plug it all in before setting the dwell- also we want to have a read of the power draw with this set up and tidy a couple of other little things mate. :DIY:

The new IGN1A coil setup featuring 9.5mm leads is finally up and running! Install went smoothly with no hiccups. Daz took care of the bulk of the wiring work with tuner Matty pinning in the final wiring into the Haltech. After setting the dwell time we done some time on the dyno, dialling in a slightly safer tune for the hot summer coming up, to save on a bit of engine wear and tear until the weather cools again in a few months. The set up looks great and with the bigger gapping (from the old set up gapped @ .5 with the occasional blow out to the new set up gapped @ .8 and no blow out) I have to say I’ve never felt the Problem Child more responsive- no hiccuping or popping, just smooth linear acceleration. Definitely money well spent.

By the way, the second “catch can” is actually the Problem Childs new radiator overflow bottle- we had to downsize to fit the coils in their new location :DIY:

The 1st time we done it in Sin City STM, I thought it was so good we had to have a crack at it in QLD too
