I keep a spreadsheet with cost and weight savings so I can quickly see the “value” in any future purchases!

That's nothing, I replaced the cigarette lighter with a plastic cover. Can't recall the weight saving but it's significant

Re: MX5 NA8 Weight Cut
Slow progress.
I want to get that soft top out but haven't had any one to help me get the hard top back on this week (better half has been away and I'm struggling to survive). Its a bit more of a mission with the roll bar.
Removing the Air Con looks like a pain as well. But apparently will save 17kg!
Mudguards came off - no need for them in Melbourne haha (0.89 kg). Should have better aero too
total lost: 10.67kg
89.33kg to go haha
Here's a pic without the mudguards just because I like the photo.

Would you be willing to email me the spreadsheet you have? It might give me an idea of what to take out and what to keep before taking things off haha

Re: MX5 NA8 Weight Cut
Wiring estimate was about 10-15kg removed and about 5 back in. Will confirm the weight loss mid month.

Can I remove those plastic crash bar things behind bumper and front guard? Considering its still a weekend fun type car... wont they deform?
Heater will stay in being in melb! But aircon might come out. The 5 hot days a year doesnt justify the AC.

Re: MX5 NA8 Weight Cut
more came out
Speakers, tweeters, head unit = 4.88kg.
I replaced the head unit with din storage = 0.15kg
replaced door cards with plastic coreflute from bunnings.
Original door cards and handles (x2)= 2.49kg.
Coreflute replacements (x2)= 0.34kg.
Stereo and door cards (- replacements) total saving of: 6.88kg
Total saved so far 17.55 kg.
82.45kg to go to reach 100kg goal.
Heres a pic of the door cards.
$5 a sheet of white core flute. $7 worth of black spray paint. $5 worth of red webbing - all from bunnings. total = $23

After a long and thoroughly enjoyable holiday the soft top came out. Slow progress
Glass window soft top (complete) weighed in at 20.37kg
That brings the total to 37.92kg.

Re: MX5 NA8 Weight Cut
Great thread.
So, my advice is to replace the BP with a B6. But seriously, a Lithium Ion battery is the best value weight saving I can find. I lost 10.5 kg (from 12 kg to 1.5 kg) for <$300 when I had to replace my lead acid battery, when comparing the prices of each. And if I had followed the battery manufacturer's advice I could have had the next lightest battery again, but I wanted some oomph.
Edit; And when you have finished losing the 100kg, 'upgrade' to NA6 brakes to lose a little more weight! Should I mention the lighter differential in the NA6?
