Re: Custard’s Tart
Had a great day at Lakeside Park yesterday and had the pleasure of meeting Alanh and his fantastic 2.5 NC. Striped NC’s are breeding!
Alan very kindly let me take his car for a spin and it was interesting to see how similar they were but also different. Although Alan is running similar stiffness springs his car has a significantly better ride, much more what I would like. I don’t know if it’s his Tein shocks but It has got me thinking!
For those considering drop engine mounts I can’t see any reason not to. Alan’s car didn’t show any signs of extra drivetrain NVH and his engine is at least a couple of cm’s lower than mine. Just check your header clearance!
My tune is a little bit less smooth around 2k rpm but the power delivery on both cars is very similar.
Alan’s car has a whole bunch if neat touches and the special edition paint is stunning in the sun!
I’ll post a vid of the track session shortly.

Thanks for the update on the differences.
Looking forward to starting my project after the next (final) MX5 Cup race for the year.

I’m keen to see how your kumhos go. I’ve now done 2 sessions on them and whilst they “feel” like they have more grip than the NT01’s and they give much better feedback they have produced exactly the same time on both occasions. Ideally I need to switch back to the Nittos for another go but gonna be busy with work for a while.

Re: Custard’s Tart
Here’s a clip from one of the few clear laps. There was a lot of novice drivers who really shouldn’t be at a general test session. Several got black flagged. The problem is, they’re mixing with race cars and the closing speeds are huge.
One thing of note, I ran two sessions with the roof down and one with the roof up. Roof up was 1 second quicker and very noticeably faster down the straights.
Time wise, another 62.3. I’m going to try the NT01’s again next time. If I compare the overlays, my mid corner speed is higher on the Nittos but I’m slightly slower top speed on both the straights.
I used both my iPhone with RaceChrono and my tablet with a 10hz gps receiver. I got almost identical data from them.

Really enjoyed comparing notes on the "stripeys" and discussing builds/suppliers. Was great to see you in action on the track & how well the car sat.
I enjoyed the ride in yours & the better throttle response. The 4.1 diff really makes a difference but as I use mine for road work I think I'll stick with the 3.7 for now mind you 4.1 with my light flywheel might be fun.

Re: Custard’s Tart
Well I’m going to put the Tart up for sale. I’ve really enjoyed the build and love how the car performs and whilst I was going to add some forced induction I’ve decided I don’t want to go down that rabbit hole plus I’ve been planning another build which will take up the garage space.
Sooooo, if anyone’s interested drop me a pm. I’d be happy to sell the 2.5 engine and MCA suspension separately and return the original engine etc or take it as is. I’ll get round to doing a proper for sale ad shortly.
