Automotive Plus Roll Bars - do the seat belts full function (retract)

Postby twr7cx » Mon Jul 22, 2019 12:15 pm

I've currently got a Hard Dog M2 Sport roll bar installed in my 89 JDM NA6. I'm over it. To keep my head away from it I can't put the seats all the way back. Due to the differing mounting position the seat belt reels don't work - they can be tough to pull out and don't retract - I've tried the CarbonMiata seatbelt extenders and no improvement.

From what I've heard the Automotive Plus roll bars are the further back sitting units. From the pictures it looks like the seatbelts remain in the standard place - anyone run one and able to confirm that they're all good for functionality?

No problems with my seat belts with the twin hoop Automotive Plus roll bar.

Ditto, automotive plus twin hoop, no issues with seat or seat belts. The hoops go straight up from the edge of the parcel shelf and do not protrude forward. I guess if you reclined you seat a long way, your head could conceivably be under the hoop, but I sit quite up right.

Agreed with previous comments RE the twin hoops.... a couple of pics of mine for reference. (Standard SE seats and height in)

I also have the twin hoop and have no issue with seatbelts, however I will add that the seatbelt extenders make it harder to retract the belt anyway due to the extra friction. This is probably not helped by the 15yo retractor springs in the seatbelt coil mechanism. I'll be getting mine re-wound at some point.

When I start to have trouble with the belts retracting I just pull them out as far as I can and wash them in mild detergent. I have found it's more often a problem with dirty belts than weak retractor springs.

Good tip. I'll give that a go.
