He said 147kw which I assume is at the crank not wheels but I’ll get more details and also a name if poss. Sounds like a Deckspeed build so maybe. 2.0 head and valves.

That is about 200hp, I have that from 1.9 at the wheels...Custardtart wrote:He said 147kw which I assume is at the crank not wheels but I’ll get more details and also a name if poss. Sounds like a Deckspeed build so maybe. 2.0 head and valves.

Car is ready, will pick it up tomorrow. For what it’s worth, (given how different dynos can be) the Tart made 125kw/170bhp at the wheels.

Brilliant, cant wait to hear your impressions after having a drive.
Aussie dynos must have a problem cos the Americans claim 200 on theirs or horses have different power down here.
Did you use the 2.5 head or 2 ?

The head is a bit of a sore point! I had planned to use the 2.0 with upgraded valves and a port/polish but because the car is Mrs Tarts daily and the cam supplier took so long I ran out of brave pills to explain to her there’d be an extra delay So it’s the standard head just with a new Supertech gasket and arp bolts which probably aren’t any better than the oem ones on the 2.5 tbh.
I think if was keeping in NA I’d have held out for the 2.0 head, fitted the valves and added an intake but as I’m going FI it probably doesn’t matter.

Re: Custard’s Tart
Just to add that an intake will make a fair amount of difference. I raced the 2.0 Duratec in a few clubmans back in the UK and a cam swap, intake and ecu would net 210bhp at the wheels, a stock engine with intake and ecu would see 190bhp. Worth noting these figs on a Caterham and Westfield with a catless exhaust.
Whilst I have a decent header I am running the stock muffler at the moment.

Sorry, those figs I mentioned above are at the crank not wheels. Uk always talks about crank hp/kw

Re: Custard’s Tart
I look forward to hearing all about how it drives.
I have started the hunt for a motor but so far lowest km's I am finding is 70K but at a price not much more than yours.
Then the part compilation starts.

Re: Custard’s Tart
I’ve Just got back from the tuners and initial impressions are that the power increase is obvious. 300hp turbo it isn’t but there’s noticeably more torque low down making 1st gear with the 4.1 diff a bit redundant. 2nd gear wot is lot faster and in every gear there’s more noticeable torque. Cruising in 6th at 1500 rpm is less smooth than before when you first put your foot down but speed really builds smoothly from 2k rpm.
Might be too early to say but if I was building this as a track only car and wasn’t going FI then I’d opt for the next level cam and drop the 2.0l head on but as a road biased car this is a really nice swap that feels almost factory.
The previous NC 2.5 swap the tuner did last month netted 10hp more with the additional cams and 2.0l head.
Interesting to hear another 2.5 NC trying to book a tune while I was there!
I’m not going to make the track day at QR tomorrow but hopefully I can get out to Lakeside soon.

Re: Custard’s Tart
You may find that for the track you are going to need to change your final drive ratio since you are staying naturally aspirated. When you consider your top speed will never be reached on a track with a 4.1 a 4.7, 5.1 or 5.3 should be on your radar...Custardtart wrote:1st gear with the 4.1 diff a bit redundant.

Thanks Magpie, if it was a track car I'd absolutely agree, I'd also look at custom gear sets as for the NC the 4.1 is as extreme as you can go unless you get something special built.
I'm going FI hopefully this year and I still have to keep an eye on the fact it's Mrs Tarts daily so cruising at a reasonable rpm is important - all compromises but part of the fun. In fact Mrs tart and I are just off out for a spin up Mt Glorious now, 26 degrees and sunny, love this time of year in QLD.
