Re: Daffy's SE
I don't think you broke the gears, unless by it smashing on the road and being dragged as you came to a stop. I think you just broke the carrier, K-Miata sell re-enforcement plates that bolt on to prevent that. I believe the break is engineered to happen in case of a rear-end crash.
As I often do, I defer to Greg Peter's and his YouTube for a better explanation and detail. Jump to around 3:30 or so if you want to see the brace part.

Seems the gears have survived
The support plates were an after thought and was intended, but a little too late. They do add some strength to the carrier break point and I would definitely recommend anyone running 300+ at the wheels to put them in.
However, onwards and upwards- the CTS diff......it’s finally arrived! Daz is furiously working away at getting it in but I’m off to China Thursday. So at this stage the Problem Child’s finishing touches (shaft mods, speedo, exhaust etc) are to be done when I get back, so another couple of weeks before the fully finished job is done, I’m so looking forward to driving it again. A full rundown coming very soon!

Do I win a prize for guessing the gears were intact?
You're going to have an awesome present waiting when you get home from your trip. Have a great time!

No mate, they are custom from a seperate company in the US that work in with Kmiata and V8 Roadsters. Billet ground, light and super strong! (They make then for the front end too for hard track driving) I’m in contact now with these US guys and talk of a potential group buy at a better price was had. More info to come once I’m up and running again, but I would have to run it by the forum moderators so not to do the wrong thing by the forum sponsors.

Mate, prize is you will get to have a drive of the child very soon!
I’m really looking forward to the trip away, but like you say- it’s going to be great to have a big run in it when I get back
Meanwhile here’s a few more install pics.....

If there is a forum sponsor offering upgraded hubs they have been pretty discreet about it However I'd like to hear about any front ones, now that I have the SADFab Toyota ones in the rear. Look forward to your update.
No ABS ring? Presume that is coming?

Possibly tomorrow arvo, but with a bit of exhaust work yet to be done, it may piss off a few neighbors. All depends on if we get the tailshaft back in time. Not much left to do, but with the trip away, it will have to wait for a proper drive till then.

Nah mate, not a forum sponsor but maybe I can sweet talk the USA guys into it , as for the ABS, we will have to find some suitable hub rings as they are bigger and the stock ones dont fit, but that will be an easy fix later down the line (I cant ever remember having engaged ABS anyhow, too old school with brake pumping

This might not be what Daffy's running, but it's what Emilio and Savington, et al are running. Not cheap, but cheaper than the damange a failure could cause.

Spot on Lachy! Miatahubs is what I’m running in the rear mate! I’ll be in touch with them again when I get back

several front hub options ...
Yes ML, I have seen those threads, not a cheap option. But, as you say, break a hub and the costs could go very high very quickly.
There is also a BMW option that is being worked up BMW front hubs, using the Genesplicer/SADFab philosophy of finding a compatible off-the-shelf part that can be made to fit.
Then there is the Bosnjak option, same nominal $ as Miatahubs ($1200/pr) but they are $Aussie and local so no international freight or exchange rate. It would be nice if someone were to out themselves as a user, for a first hand user report.
