What seats fit the NA’s
Having wet dreams about Bride or Mazdaspeed seats in particular. Especially the one with leather outer & cloth on the soft parts.
Do we have a list of seats that fit the NA/NB?
Regardless of brand.

Re: What seats fit the NA’s
Sparco Sprint V (modified OEM rails)
Mazdaspeed early Recliners (with appropriate brackets)
Mazdaspeed B-Spec (OEM rails, NB needs to be converted to NA belt receiver)
Mazda AZ1 (nearly identical seat to the MS B-spec)
Mazdaspeed Fixed Buckets (unsure on rails, extremely narrow seat)
Sparco Ultra (fitment as per Sprint V)
Only issue is, it's a list that will never end.
There's hundreds of seats that fit, but a lot are no longer in production.

Depends on the state rules.
in Vic from memory a bucket seat is legal if it's ADR approved.
However, if the seat needs any changes to the rails/seatbelt then the mounting method must be engineer approved.
Which in practice means pretty much every seat needs an engineer.

Re: What seats fit the NA’s
Lotus seats that fit (all need mounting brackets):
Lotus Elise
Tillet B5 (these are the seats that Lotus owners switch to)
Corbeau Le, Le-Pro (Corbeau manufactured the original Lotus shells and they sell similar ones)
Regarding the MazdaSpeed seats "Especially the one with leather outer & cloth on the soft parts":
I had these at one time in my car.
The Good:
The lateral support is excellent, on twisty roads they hold you nicely in your seat.
On long drives they feel like sitting in a comfy chair - this is where they really excel.
They look great.
The Bad:
They're very heavy.
They need special brackets so make sure that you can get them.
The thigh supports are too high for DD, making it difficult to get in and out of the car (you will likely give the side bolster next to the exit door a real beating as you need to drag across it when you get in and out).
The thigh supports are too low on the track so don't keep you in your seat like a proper track seat.
They will all have tear marks or depressions in the rear where they make contact with the top of the seat belt tower when you move the seat back - this is because they only just fit.
For some reason I don't rember whether or not they made you sit higher than the OEM seats.

I reckon those Mazdaspeed seats really only suit the earlier FC RX7s. Too big and bulky for the MX5.

Pretty much this.
Sparco rev will fit (side mount only though, so fabricated mount required).
Then the question becomes "do I/other drivers fit in Sparco's smallest seat?" - my mechanic doesn't...

Re: What seats fit the NA’s
The Az1 seats share the same rails as NA 5's,
drop straight in and bolt up.
They are more comfortable than the sparco type often used, more street friendly but can become a torture weapon on long trips due to the non reclinable plastic shell.

I've not found them too bad.
At least as good as the OEM NB8A seats were on long drives, since I rarely adjusted the recline on the factory seats anyway.
Although, I did mount mine using a couple of spacers on the front so as to give it a little more rake than normal.
And yeah, as mentioned, they use NA6 rails and attach straight up. (on driver's side at least, passenger rails have a different bolt spacing, and i'm not sure if the AZ1 seats have a left/right version.
I know the Mazdaspeed B-Spec (which are just an AZ1 seat with an MS build plate and some different padding) dont have a left/right pair.

Re: What seats fit the NA’s
Years ago I was visiting Rupewrecht (JDM parts guy) and he owned a red AZ-1 with a bodykit. I was looking at all the little bits which were the same as my NA.

All my mazda/speed seats have come from Dan including the current AZ1 seat. He had a pair of red ones for sale there recently

Re: What seats fit the NA’s
I fitted a pair of Cobra Monti Carlo seats to my SE. They are a replica of racing Porsche 911 circa 1970's and are super light, probably half the weight of small racing seats. The Mini fraternity like these a lot because they are small. Mine are black leather/vinyl with red piping and fit like a glove in the car. Very supportive on the track and very comfortable.
The headrest extends up and harness straps can run between the chrome steel uprights. The secondary rails are attached to the standard sliding rails.
I had to cut holes on the sides and seat for the 6 point harness, although I think there is an option for this .

Re: What seats fit the NA’s
I’m not keen on bucket seats. Other problem I have is the shoulders are quite big. Backside is not. But I’ve sat in some of those Sparko seats & the shoulder become severely cramped. Anything more than 5 min would become a problem.
Unsure if those shoulder parts are adjustable on seats.
