Nothing official. In a way good news that the NSW government have been making music festivals require more police presence and hence forcing these events to be cancelled by the promoters because of funding issues. WTAC requires NSW government support to continue, with no drug issues (pill testing required) or massive police presence required at WTAC maybe the event will get NSW Government support again. On the down side the V8 supercars in Newcastle does also have government funding.

I guess Ian has to juggle to costs of the event Vs income. Last year attendance was down a bit due to rain so that may have hurt the event financially.

There is lots of internet rumors. However last year the date was announced in JAN with the rule book update at the end of Feb with entries opening in APR. At a rough guess maybe end of FEB there will be some news...

Fingers crossed we hear some good news soon. I would be devastated if it gets cancelled and I never had the chance to attend this event.

Bathurst is an amazing track and the Challenge event is pretty good by all accounts, but it's no WTAC, and I've already raced at The Mountain a couple of times, so that box is ticked for me.

With the first round of the TimeAttack.com.au Lakeside series fast approaching, I thought I'd better pull my finger out and get my Singular Motorsport bonnet vents fitted. These weren't cheap at around $390 delivered, but they are a quality product and have the testing to back them up, so I thought it was a worthwhile investment.

The blades on each vent need to be bent into place at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. Not too hard to do, just need to take your time. Next I had to mark and measure out the positioning for the template.

Next I taped up the rest of the bonnet, and put down some sheets over the engine bay and the windscreen. Then it was time to grab the angle grinder and get into cutting the holes. This was nerve-racking!!!

Went well for the most part. Slipped a couple of times and left little marks along the edge, but some touch up paint and the rubber trim was enough to cover them. The underside was tricky to cut in a few spots, but all went pretty well.

I didn't take a lot of photos from this point, but the rest was pretty straight forward. clean up the edges, drill the rivet holes fit the rubber trim and then rivet the louvres into place. I was pretty happy with the finish. I did get a few light scratches on the bonnet which I touched up, but it wasn't a perfect bonnet to start with, and well.....it's a race car now :)

Apart from that I just put in some new front pads, checked the rear pads and re-greased the slider pins, bled some fluid from the calipers, and gave it a once over before heading out for the first round of the Time Attack series.

I don't know what the temperature was yesterday, but damn it felt hot! The car felt good though, and I slowly eased my way into it, getting faster each session. The only adjustments I made all day to the car were tyre pressures and bump/rebound adjustments.

I'd managed a 62.07 to equal my PB in the third session, but my main rival in the A2 class from last year, had just improved his PB in same session to a 62.01. One session to go and I knew there was a 61 in it, I just had to put it all together and muster a bit more courage to carry a bit more corner speed in a couple of corners. It was about 11.30 by the time we hit the track for our last session and it was hot!. Put my head down and on the third lap of the session I managed a 61.87. Pretty sure I was on an even better lap next time around, but coming down the hill from Eastern Loop, the car had a sudden hesitation and lost power.

Checked the boost gauge and there was zero boost :( Limped the car back to the pits and popped the bonnet to have a quick look. I expected to see a loose or split intercooler hose but nothing obvious. It may be right down the bottom where it joins onto the intercooler. Car was running ok otherwise, so just packed it up and drove slowly home. Will have a closer look at it next weekend.

Well done! That was a long time coming, now you've broken the plateau hopefully more will fall.

Hope you find that boost issue, with luck it'll just be a hose. I popped a hose on the hot side once, scared me to death, thought I broke the car! But it was just that top hose from the turbo to the IC hard pipes :D

Yeah I've popped that same hose (hadn't tightened the clamp after some work ) and thought I'd blown the engine.

Nice work on the vents and the times. Enjoying following your progress.

Yeah, hoping it's just a simple hose issue. Strange thing was, it was showing normal vacuum on the boost gauge at idle. Would that be the case if it had popped or split an intercooler hose?

I post up the in car video sometime this week.

Luckily for me, the fix was an easy one. The intercooler hose on the passengers side had come of the intercooler, so just a matter of getting it back on and tightening up the clamp again. In the process,we also put an extra clamp on the steel pipe and then connected a mild steel "tab" between the two clamps to try and prevent the hose working its way off the steel pipe.

Wish I'd taken a couple of photos, but was in a hurry to get it done so I didn't miss the F1 qualifying :)

It must've been caused by the 50psi of boost you were running!

Yeah, I'm going to have re-engineer the whole setup now that I'm running a massive 14psi :)

To be honest though, the intercooler was installed by the previous owner, and I'd really only given it a once over with my eye. They are good quality clamps on the intercooler end, but i guess over time things happen when you start pushing it on the track.

Looks like we've managed to post the fastest time in class, and in doing so, take the A2 Street Class win for the first round of the Lakeside Time Attack Series.

Thanks to NitroDann, MCA Suspension and Brakes Direct for their help to date.

Our next event is the Jap Nats at Queensland Raceway on April 6th. Slightly different class categories for this event, so I'll be up against any 2WD forced induction street cars, as they don't have engine capacity limits. Been a couple of years since I've done any laps around here, and there are a couple of big name interstate Time Attack cars coming out for this event, so it should be a good weekend.

I recall Dann had trouble on the dyno with my IC hoses popping off. The problem is there's no bead on the pipes when they're cut for the wider IC. Not sure if Dann just upgraded the quality of clamp, or if he put a bead on there. No trouble since either way.

As inconvenient as it would have been on the day, it an easy quick fix with no damage, so that's a relief.

Yeah, I'll definitely look at redoing some of the intercooler piping at some stage and add a bead as required.
