I'm also enjoying your progress. I can't believe you still consider this your wife's car

Yup them guys! Have you had a similar experience?

Mrs Tart is very much the owner :D

I have only ordered from them once for my wideband, and had no issues, but stories like yours abound, and worse (pistons received didn't meet the spec ordered, but told to just run them instead). Makes me not want to deal with them, but in some cases their prices are too good or they're a one-stop-shop for everything you're looking for.

On the side that you have the 2mm gap could you put something in there like a shim or packer then pull the output end of the gearbox toward the shim, this would afford some leverage on the dowels in the stuck side. Maybe tapping around the stuck side with a large hammer on a piece of wood while levering as above. Sounds like a bastard thing. Maybe you could lever the output end of the gearbox towards the shim with a piece of timber between the transmission tunnel and gearbox to crack it loose. Have you tried loosing your temper with it yet, adrenalin is useful sometimes. :?

Thanks guys, my mate is massive and went at it pretty hard (ramps rather than jack stands help here) with the breaker bar to get the 2mm gap but I like the idea of shims and working out how to leverage the other side. I've now soaked the dowels in penetrating oil again but won't have a chance to tackle it til Thursday now.

It doesn't help that I keep getting emails about upcoming Sprint events - grrr

I emailed you this info, don't know if you have seen it. Apparently there are some concealed bolts.

Thanks for the additional info. All bolts are out and yes there’s two forwards facing one but I didn’t have an probs getting all the bolts out.
I have managed to get the engine seperated today but ran out of time to lift it out.

I can picture it now- ten 5 yr olds carrying your motor around the garage.

I think I am more encouraged to do the front end drop the more I read this.. :(
When I eventually get there.
Good luck with the 5year olds... that will be harder than the gerarbox removal.

Yep, those MX5 boffins new what they were doing when they recommended to drop the engine out!

Is there a “spotted” thread? Was at carsncoffee this morning and saw a nice looking early PRHT NC, nicely lowered & sporting these rather tasty wheels?

A friend, on his NC, reckons out the top with gearbox still attached wasn't a problem. But you need an adjustable leveller

Did you manage to get any more time to play?

Not really, grabbed an hour this week and almost got the engine out. All the research I’ve done hasn’t really had enough detail so I’ve ended up having to do things not mentioned anywhere else. For example I’ve had to remove the bulkead reinforcement panel and I’ve had to buy a taller jack as the car is on ramps and a bormal jack can’t get the gearbox up to the right height and angle to get the engine out. All these things just eat up the small amounts if time I get to work on it. Nearly there though
