I’m going top out as I’ve got tools for that. I don’t believe bottom out is quicker when you add all the stuff to remove and then add back in like bumpers etc. maybe for a pro....
Yeah pretty lucky with the amount of space and aircon in Qld right now is a godsend!
Gearbox is staying put, well that’s the plan anyway!
I’ve got today and then two days next week to get it out which hopefully will be enough.

Enjoy these moments working through the build. Scars will remind you of the fun times.

I assume you will boost it one day and likely take it off the road?

Cheers, Chris

Thanks mate. Yes it’s getting some boost atvsome point soon. Although it’s Mrs Tart’s daily we have a shitbox she doesn’t seem to mind using whilst it’s off the road.

So for anyone doing this in the future I thought I’d add that to get the ac compressor bolts off i managed 3 with a extension bars up to 250mm and a swivel but one of the bottom ones needed 750mm and a swivel and I went at it from the rear of the front suspension with the wheel in place as the car is on ramps. Probably easier if ypu use jack stands and take the wheel off.

Also, to get the ac compressor up and cable tied back I had to remove the throttle body and brass plate on thefront cross member that attaches the wiring loom.

I am loving your work, just makes me more thankful that I don't have the skills or time and paid to have it done. Keep up the great work

Yeah I can definitely see the attraction in having someone else do it

I've got some muscle coming over Saturday to help get it out without too much collateral damage. Gearbox is supported, engine is tensioned up to the hoist and the only things holding it to the gearbox are a couple of bolts.

Because I'm swapping the clutch and flywheel over there's a bit of mucking around getting the 2.5 off the engine stand to be able to bolt it all on then back on to do a final timing check and tighten the crank pulley bolt with the flywheel locked, then it can go in.

Remember the race muffler? Well it never arrived from the US and the supplier has stopped returning my emails! They were excellent with the valvetrain kit but get a big thumbs down for this

At a guess, is the supplier Fab9Tuning.com?

I'm also enjoying your progress. I can't believe you still consider this your wife's car

Despite the brutal efforts of an ex AFL player and a crow bar bar we couldn't split the engine/box. I've tried everything I know bar heat which I don't want to resort to.

The best we managed was a 2 mm gap on one side. There doesn't appear any sign of corrosion but maybe the dowels have some on them. Also, some of the bellhousing bolts had some loctite on them which may have seeped out around the hols. Bloody frustrating.

Hmmm...Penetrating oil left for some time around the dowels. It probably has to come off really square. On the side that you have the 2mm gap could you put something in there like a shim or packer then pull the output end of the gearbox toward the shim, this would afford some leverage on the dowels in the stuck side. Maybe tapping around the stuck side with a large hammer on a piece of wood while levering as above. Sounds like a bastard thing. Maybe you could lever the output end of the gearbox towards the shim with a piece of timber between the transmission tunnel and gearbox to crack it loose. Have you tried loosing your temper with it yet, adrenalin is useful sometimes. :?
