Best tyres for 14" NA wheels

Postby Nick3 » Mon Feb 11, 2019 12:47 am

Greetings.

Could anyone please advise of any brands/models of good tyres, for street use, for the 14" NA wheels ?

I've read previous forum discussions, and Australian and overseas tyre reviews, but they mostly concentrate on 15", and larger, wheels.

Recommended tyres are frequently not available in 14" sizes.

I have access to 15" wheels, but would like to retain my standard 14" daisies.

Thanks in advance.

The best tyre would be whatever you can get. Don't be picky, as there isn't much available in the size you want. Almost zero.

That's what I was afraid of. Hope someone can advise they have found something of quality, that works well.

Falken Azenis RT615K+ 195/60/14 are imported in small batches throughout the year.
I ordered mine through the local Lismore tyrepower and received them within a couple of days.
Awesome grippy tyre for spirited driving, can handle wet roads though more suited to dry.
Road noise is less than I anticipated.
Treadwear rating is 200.
Would happily recommend them.

thx 3gress useful to know - how much a corner?
Nick, apart from those & one or two very high end tyres, the few others around were very much economy tyres, with nothing in the middle ground.

The lack of options is why I decided to go to a 15" wheel. Still have the 14" ones so I can go back to stock but for a street performance tyre there's a lot more options in 1%"

I paid $720 for all four fitted and balanced.

I recently had Bridgestone Turanza T001 fitted to my NA, was pretty much my only option at the time. $530 including alignment.

Tyres are a very subjective thing.

But I concur the azenis is a good tyre. But I never had them in the 14"version

Middle two options are Turanza T001 & Bridgestone RE71. Turamza is a touring tyre while RE71 is the option just before a semi slick. I bought RE71 in 1997 for my old NA6 - they were excellent, but cost $175 a corner back then in the ACT.

The Bridgestone RE71 had a 4 month lead time and were made to order when I checked mid last year.
Falken offer the ziex ZE912 in 195/65/14. The overall diameter is 612mm which is beefier than the RT615K+ at 590mm overall diameter but then chunky sidewalls look the biz in my opinion!

When I bought my NA8 it had a new set of "Aeolus Precision Ace" fitted - they were presumably the cheapest option available. I was surprised at how well they handled, but that may well have been the car being much better than I was used to. I did notice on a couple of my adventures onto the track that when they did let go the gave little warning, and resulted in spins fortunately without any damage , they are also a bit noisy. They are coming to the end of their life now and will need replacing in the next 5000 Ks or so and I will probably bite the bullet and try to buy a set of NB wheels and some higher end tyres, but if anybody can come up with a decent 14" tyre I would prefer that.

I must admit I read tyre sidewalls when out and about. I love seeing the weird Asian brands with highly creative/nonsensical names.
