Hmmm, I wish but I'm still waiting for my cams to arrive.

Once the cams arrive I can then remove the 2.0 engine from the Tart and start removing everything ready to swap over and send the head off to be decked and ported by a local firm. Then I'll fit the new valvetrain and cams and bolt the head and block back together with the new ARP bolts, time everything up, fit the clutch and drop it back in. I then need to load a base tune for the cams, go out and drive it a bit to log some files, send those off to the tuner and then load the final tune. I'm

I've upgraded the valvetrain so I can rev the engine higher. It's my understanding that these engines respond very well to revs and whilst I won't be running a race cam I should see some good gains between 5.5k and the 7.5k redline. I should be able to rev to 8k with these springs/valves but from my research the power drops off a cliff past 7.5k with mild cams.

While the engine is out I'm fitting new engine mounts, I've gone OEM as I've never had a problem with missing shifts on track and don't want the extra NVH. I'm also having to fit new COPS pig tails as they're currently causing a misfire still where they cracked and I didn't effect a great repair (twice )

The 2.0 has a lightened flywheel and exedy clutch which will get swapped over and I'l keep the GWR ceramic header too.

I've also ordered a straight through, race muffler which will be, er, interesting!

The cams turned up and are now in the engine and the head is back on. Should have it timed tomorrow then I’ll pull the engine out of the Tart with my newly purchased engine crane and ramps.

They should rename “pulling” the engine to “spending hours working out how to unbolt stuff”

That’s the easy bit. Just keep undoing bolts until things start falling off.

The exhaust just fell off!
Two bits have me stumped, the ac compressor bolts and the top two bolts on the gearbox.

For an NB gearbox, a couple of long socket extensions (pref with wobble joints) from below, and a decent rattle gun, easy peasy ... maybe, I don't know about NCs. Maybe leave the compressor until the engine is out?

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

If you can unbolt the compressor you can tie it out the way without disconnecting any hoses apparently.

Of course  . You can tell that I go off the boil when bedtime approaches ... Have looked on the big board (Miatanet), I'd be surprised if there weren't photos/reports there?

Yeah I had a good look but those crazy yanks don’t always get it right. Their advice was to remove the inner wheelarch and shock! I think that’s cos their cars are lhd and have steering stuff in the way. I saw both MotoEast and Dynatronics claim you can’t remove the engine without the gearbox but Adrian here has pics showing it.
Anyway, I did the compressor this am with extension bars and a swivel head. I’m off to get a REALLY long extension for the gearbox now so fingers crossed!

looking good... love your work space..
The compressor is a bit of a pain to remove. who needs skin on their knuckles anyway.

Are you removing the gearbox with the motor or are you leaving the gearbox in the car?
From what I have read dropping the complete Motor, gearbox and subframe makes some of this a little easier.
