Heel and Toeing is the first thing you learn when you go to the track in a manual car.

The other risk is snapping a clutch band during compression lockups....

Yes, I need to get on this. No, I haven't been heel/toeing very much at all. I'll need to get out and practice.
One of the reasons I post the in car videos where you can see me is to make myself aware of what I am doing or not doing while I am driving. Quite often I don't see it or am not aware of it until moments like these.
It's pretty easy to practice, even on the road, the heel-toe action. It's a bit trickier at speed because you're braking (much) harder on the track but at least you'll have the general technique.
My $0.02 would be to try to keep your hands at 9-3 as much as possible (minimise shuffling), and don't leave your left hand on the gear stick - you shouldn't be driving through corners one-handed - it looks (and I'm sure you noticed it felt) awkward and less precise.

Re: MrTurkey's NC3 Track Only Build
Well I have a new gearbox in the car and ready for the first club competition round this coming weekend at the Logic Track in Wodonga. Other gearbox has some minor damage and is free shifting now but will have it checked out and setup as a spare.
I'll bed everything in and try to build some good driving habits while trying to make the MX5 stand out against a few quick 86's.
Also had our local car club dinner, managed to snag 3rd in Class D for 2018 with my Golf R which was nice to cap off the year.
Cheers, Chris

Re: MrTurkey's NC3 Track Only Build
Bit of a laggy update on my last track day at Logic Wodonga
11/11/18
Best Lap Time: 1:01.1180
17/2/19:
Best Lap Time: 0:59.4615
I was very happy to go straight under the minute. After looking at RaceChrono after the event I was happy/unhappy because my theoretical best lap was a 57.82. I have since bought a bluetooth GPS to get a more accurate fix on my lap times. Happy the car can go faster without any more $$, just driving consistency and practice.
I'll post up some YouTubes later when I finish the edit.

Well done. It’s amazing how many people seem to miss this concept.... even when it should be smacking them between the eyes

Thanks, I look forward to those challenges.
Video is out, should render to 1080p when youtube is good and ready. Apologies if you are OCD as the video isn't quite level.
GPS looks pretty random on this (Galaxy Note 9) so I have on my desk now a QSTARZ 818XT 10hz which will be used on my next outings.

Round 2 for AWDCC done, at Winton 23/3/19
My camera memory card went full for my last and quickest session sadly but here is this one.
At 2:14 my GPS makes it's star appearance, will have to get it stuck down more firmly next run.
My best lap long track below, I was pretty happy with this for where I am at with the car.
Would love to see more of these from you guys here ;)
Giving it a loop on a damp short track earlier in the day for your entertainment.

Re: MrTurkey's NC3 Track Only Build
Not sure how I missed this! That track looks very greasy in that first session, good fun though. You’ve got a nice smooth style, the car looks like it’s well set up.
What’s the software you use to get the track data overlay?

Thanks, been working on smoothing out the downshifts particularly. Car felt really really good as the day went on.
That dry line tempted me to keep the boot in and I got caught, all good though, got to find the grip limits somehow.
My setup is:
RaceChrono (full paid version) on Note 9 for the Track Data
I now have a QStarz 818XT bluetooth GPS for better GPS accuracy, I found the phone alone was too erratic. (multiple phones)
OBDLink LX bluetooth for the car data. (Generic ones work too, this one seems to have a higher refresh)
Sony HDR-AS50 for the images (These are cheap and do 1080 at 60fps, stabilization is pretty decent too) on a GoPro mount with Amazon adapters.
I edit in DaVinci Resolve (free version)
To get the overlay I clip the video, upload to phone and then sync the data and video together and let the phone do the render. There are ways to make the phone and camera talk but I do it myself. Then put back on computer if I want to edit further or just upload to YT.
Dyno time:
FYI:
99.5 KW is dirty air filter in
101.9 KW is air filter out and airbox closed
100.2 KW is air filter out and airbox propped open
So, I got to get an air filter, what to do? Don't want to waste money for a minimal HP gain. Should I get a new panel filter, new K&N filter (or similar) or go a full intake?
I also have a Tactrix now and looking at self tuning/assisted tuning with this. Does anyone have any experience in what tables I should focus on for track duties only? (risky question I know)

Just fit a k&n filter. CAI is a really poor value for money mod imo

Re: MrTurkey's NC3 Track Only Build
Had a few track days since the last post with some YouTube footage
This was from 14 May at Winton with the Vic MX5 club. Got my PB down to 1:40.2 on the day before I broke the gearbox bushings. (2nd time this year)
From the footage I was going to send it under the 1:40 mark fairly comfortably but had traffic issues in my session followed by the gearbox issue in the following run. Chasing the LS powered RX7 gave me motivation to push a bit harder which was fun.
Anyhow, fixed the gearbox with the MX5 Parts alloy bushes. So far these have been pretty good, gearbox is a bit notchier in the pits but on track isn't noticeable.
Next track day was at Wilby with AWDCC on 19/5/19. Fun little short track. See below:
Car was solid all day.
I have also grabbed some used RPF1's in 17x9 +45 and two sets of used rubber, some 225/45/17 Yokahama Advan AD08R and some 235/45/17 Hankook Ventus TD Z221. AD08's are on the rims at moment but I need to roll the rear guards a bit to get more clearance (they did rub). Can't wait to get some runs on these, especially with the Z221 rubber.
Next run should be Logic Wodonga on 23/6/19
Cheers
