Re: Custard’s Tart
I doubt engine mounts. Maybe one of the hanger rubbers has failed/slipped out, maybe Mrs Tart (!) attacked a speed hump and reshaped the piping?

Looks like you were right, that flimsy xbrace had contacted something and been pushed up towards the exhaust!

Re: Custard’s Tart
Finally got enough parts and time to start on the 2.5 swap.
I’m not just dropping one straight in though as originally planned. I’m removing the head to be sent off for a bit of work then reinstalling with ARP bolts and supertech valves and springs together with a mild cam upgrade.
Just checking the original timing and making sure my timing kit fits. You just never know what’s going to turn up from fleabay!

Re: Custard’s Tart
Turns out the L4 is light enough to lift onto an engine stand.
And still had a fair bit of oil in it

Re: Custard’s Tart
I have removed the head as I’m getting some new springs, valves and a bit of a cam upgrade. I’m also getting the head checked before putting it all back together.
Undoing the crank pulley bolt wasn’t the issues I expected but the head bolts were a bu**er! I had to brace the engine stand and really crank the breaker bar.
Waiting for parts is frustrating, I was hoping to get everything before the xmas hols but most items won’t arrive until mid Jan!
So for now there’s not much more to do.

Re: Custard’s Tart
I’m still waiting for some goodies to turn up but I thought I’d clear up some misinformation on a 2.5 swap.
Lots of people buy a balance shaft delete kit for about $100 but all you need to do is drill out the oil gallery hole using a 8.5mm bit and then tap it out with an M10 1.5 before fitting a 35mm M10 1.5mm bolt with a copper washer and some locktite.
I’d read a few places that said it needed an M8 size but that’s too small. I guess some people use a Ford version of the engine which may have a different size.
Anyway, here’s some pics of the essential bits you need. I’m not entirely convinced I have the right size belt though as there’s a number of different part bumbera people recommend.

Re: Custard’s Tart
I’ll soon have an NC engine block for sale, no head or sump and a few other ancillary items.
Will also have a 2.5 head complete with valves/springs and cams.
Happy to reserve if interested.

Re: Custard’s Tart
Most of the goodies arrived today to finish the build. Gotta say a big thanks to Fab9 who helped out to get everything shipped at minimum cost.
Just waiting on cams now, ironically coming from Australia and taking the longest to arrive.

Im really looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I hear what your saying about delivery from within Australia taking longer than from overseas

I understand the market is not huge in Aus and I'd really like to support local businesses but when most of the stuff is more than half as much again and you have to wait months for the next container it just doesn't make sense.
I've just ordered a race exhaust, Aus$200 plus $75 shipping from the US. The cheapest here was $600 and I could get one custom made for $800!
