Just for future reference here is my last quote from Amayama on these items:

amayama.com wrote:Mazda NA0164481B BOOT, DUST COVER - 33.53 AUD, 1 items (outer boot)
Mazda M51317480A BOOT, DUST COVER - 28.37 AUD, 1 items (inner boot)
Mazda 039817462A BUSH, PLASTIC - 3.82 AUD, 1 items (nylon cup)

as I said earlier, all genuine, all Made in Japan, identical to OEM and should last as long as OEM

Edit: just checked and amayama have dropped those prices and they're still Made in Japan.

Yes that is much better value. Not sure why I didn't do this now. I think I had already ordered one of the boots before I saw this thread. And maybe I wasn't sure what the lead time from Japan was going to be? Will certainly be looking at this first next time.

Most parts I've bought from Amayama have been available from their Australian warehouse.

I recently did this job again on my 6 speed and unfortunately there's still bugger all better solutions so instead i got a B2000 lower boot which is exactly the same but about half the price and just used another mazda upper boot. I considered one of those delrin bushes but i don't see how it could possibly make any difference as the standard plastic is completely unable to squish/flex in that circumstance anyway.
