I also found these similar ones (I think a bit cheaper);

(they've got a lot to choose from).

Looks like they are a little different to the SM ones, as they don't have the middle louvre or the gurney flap on the front edge, but a fair bit cheaper :)

Don't know if the gurney flap is that effective (wouldn't the first louvre have a similar effect?). Anyway you could easily make and fit one if needed.

This can cause moisture to be trapped and may corrode without you seeing it. Were they stainless steel type?

Standard SE exhaust manifold.

Last Saturday was the final round of the Timeattack.com.au Lakeside Series. We went out needing to win the class again to take out the A2 Street Class championship, so had our fingers crossed everything would hold together and I'd be able to put down a decent time.

Conditions weren't great for setting quick times, with temps around 26 degrees at 9.30am, and a decent head wind down the front straight. What made it worse was that the Paramedic didn't show on time and it was nearly 10.30am by the time we even got out for our first session of the morning.

In the first session, the tyres over pressurised a bit due to the fact that I'd set them about 9am for my first run, and then didn't think to adjust them for the warmer temps at 10.30am. Ended up with around 35psi all round in the AD08Rs. Still managed a 62.4 which wasn't far off my PB of 62.25, so bled the tyres down and waited for session two.

Next session out, I was more in the groove and posted a new PB at 62.07. Was very happy with this because of the aforementioned conditions, and the fact that despite doing nothing but changing brake lines, we'd managed to knock a second of our PB in the four outings we've done this year. Not only this, but it gave me a nice healthy buffer of 0.8 of a second over Adam in his Megane RS265, who was the only guy who could beat me in the championship.

Third session out I was looking for that 61 second lap that would be the icing on the cake, but just ended up over driving. When trying to find that extra tenth, you're always at the limit, and then sometimes beyond.......

Still managed to match my previous PB, but no 61 second lap this time around.

Came in to regather myself and headed out for the lasts session of the day. Was happier with how I drove, and thought I might have done enough to improve again but it wasn't to be with a best of 62.1. I guess that 61 second lap will just have to wait until next year. :)

I have no doubt we'll get it, and there is still so much I can do to the car within the allowable mods of the Street Class. I'm pretty confident we'll get down into the low 61s, maybe even a high 60 before we step up into the next class.

Still waiting for the official results of the event and the series to be posted, but I will post a video of my new PB shortly.

You guys ran the day after me, similar conditions by the sound of it but some great times, especially on the AD08 which isn't an true R spec

I noticed you jump from 6th to 4th for the corner entry which looks like it locks up, maybe contributing to the back end stepping out :?: :D Nice save though

Thanks.

I've never dríven on the AD08Rs until this year, but they seem a reasonable tyre. Not an R spec as you say, and there's probably another second or so in tyres alone. I might try the 225/45/15 RS4s next time if I can find some, as they are still allowed within the Street Class.

I always do the 6th to 4th downshift going into Karussel, and maybe just let the clutch out a little early

Just the standard 3.6 SE diff. Standard gearbox, standard sway bars, standard rubber bushes, standard brake calipers, pretty standard all round :D

A little bit of an update on where we're at with this car.

I'll admit I had a brief moment where I looked at my list of proposed mods, and thought I may be better off starting with an 86 rather than continuing down the "slippery slope" of a turbo MX5 track car. There are pros and cons of each, but in the end I decided to stick with the MX5.

With that decision made, I bit the bullet and order a set of Singular Motorsport bonnet vents from SuperMiata. I'm starting to push the car a little harder on track, and as a consequence the under bonnet temps must be increasing, as I have suffered a few loose nuts on the turbo manifold and dumpipe etc. I will have to make the switch to incolnel studs at some point, but hoping for now that the bonnet vents will help lower the under bonnet temps and eliminate this issue. I'm hoping to have these installed before the first round of the Time Attack Series.

I'd also like to get my hands on a bluetooth GPS like the Qstarz Q818XT or Garmin Glo so that I can connect it to my old Samsung S6 and run RaceChrono for some basic data logging this year.

In regards to track time, this is the plan for this year:

Sunday 10/03/19 – Time Attack Round 1 at Lakeside
Saturday 06/04/19 – JapNats at Queensland Raceway
Saturday 04/05/19 – Time Attack Round 2 at Lakeside
Saturday 15/06/19 – Time Attack Round 3 at Lakeside
Sunday 28/07/19 – Chassis Shootout at Lakeside
Saturday 07/09/19 – Time Attack Round 4 at Lakeside
Saturday 28/09/19 – King of QR at Queensland Raceway
Saturday 23/11/19 – Time Attack Round 5 at Lakeside

We recently attended the 2018 Time Attack Series awards night, and collected our trophies for our win in the A2 class, and fastest class time of the year. Hopefully we can go back to back this year :)

Stay strong with the cause

Hopefully we can fend off the 86 brigade (me with my NC too)

Nice silverware, well done!! Glad to hear you are sticking to the SE.

I have scaled back my ambitions for this year, both for car and competition. The car has been up on stands for far too long, but is now coming back together - poly/bronze bushes are in, with ELBJs, and the PSS9s off the racecar. The rad is still out, I need a couple of fittings for the oil cooler and that can go back in. I have just about finished the ducting, only need to tape up a few small gaps and that will be finished too. I'd like to get some mounts for the splitter set up before the nosecone goes back on, but not at the cost of holding things up (pun intended  ).

That is a pretty solid program, my plans are to do the SMS GP and Wakefield rounds of the Supersprints, and the Club Wakefield trackdays (but not the first), and see how I and the car hold up. I will definitely shoot for a track day at Phillip Island too, because PI 8) . I am a bit over all the travel to Sydney, so I need to be pretty motivated and I think only the GP circuit provides that these days.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

I've hardly seen another MX5 at the Time Attack events I've done. I guess there's a few still out there doing Sprints, MX5 club days or Prodsports, but I haven't really had the chance to catch up with any of the guys.

Not really looking to modify my car for any more speed this year, it's more about maintenance and making it more reliable. Will concentrate on the cooling, some incolnel studs, replacing the tired old rubber bushes, which hopefully I can just do between rounds. I may grab an adjustable front sway bar if one comes up second hand, and a hardtop if Lightyear gets around to making any or a second hand factory one comes up at a reasonable price.

I may drop the Chassis Shootout and look to get to Morgan Park for a day if something fits into the rest of the schedule. Still very keen to get to WTAC if it's on. Won't be competing, but keen to get involved and give you a hand if you are going Mark and need a hand.

Have you heard anything about the 2019 event going ahead Mark?
