Is there shade you n the paddock or would you recommend a sunshade?

I would take 2 one for the car and one for yourself. There is no shade provided, there is some tree cover, but not enough.

Well the car was fixed at 3pm today so I missed Friday scrutineering by the time I got here. The overheating was the radiator fan which was dead as a doornail. Got the aircon regassed too and the new suspension was perfectly fine during the 2hr drive to Noosa.

Half way through the first day, jeez there’s a lot of hanging around! Luckily there’s some great machinery a d friendly folks.

A few pics from the Hillclimb. Whilst I enjoyed chatting to drivers and the fantastic array of cars I realised this sort of event isn’t really for me. We only got 2 proper runs and there was no timing so I didn’t bother going back on Sunday and went to the beach with the family. Here’s a few pics of some of the cars and for what it’s worth I’ll upload vid from my 2nd and last lap.

Whilst I enjoyed chatting to drivers and the fantastic array of cars I realised this sort of event isn’t really for me. We only got 2 proper runs and there was no timing so I didn’t bother going back on Sunday and went to the beach with the family.

That does not sound good, especially for the cost of entry

The Audi in one of your photos (BCH44) did not make it home under its own power. It did not crash but had (another) mechanical failure

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. There were at least four cars who went off on the Saturday which added to the delay. The announcer seemed keen that this year was a record for the number of cars but to me it seems they need a cap on the numbers as it really got away from the organisers - who were otherwise brilliant and very helpful.

Anyway, here's my 2nd lap, no idea on time but I'm all over the place in terms of gear selection, corner speed and car position. It's quite a tricky course and for me would probably take at least 6 laps to have any real idea of how to tackle it.

The new shocks seemed to work well. I left them on road settings and there was a touch of understeer but I'd rather have a bit more predictable handling first time up a hill. The 2hr drive home on RE003's was perfectly comfortable and Mrs Tart has dríven the car to work today so I'll see if I'm allowed to keep them when she gets home!

Lakeside in 2 weeks will be a much better test as I've got a half decent baseline there and should get plenty of laps.

Not really Bruce, because it’s Mrs Tart’s daily it has to have a degree of comfort and I really enjoy road driving in it. Half the fun for me is being able to to drive to and from events with minimal tools amd the roof down.

Are you keeping it road legal? Also which SC are you going with?

Well this is a very dangerous path, fraught with all sorts of dangers

Yes, 100% road legal so ride height is slightly above, mods plates sorted etc. The only area I'm possibly not legal is the wheels size for track events. All other times I'm using stock rims and stock RE003's. For Noosa, I drove up and back on the stock rims but most events are closer to home and I'll have the track rims/tyres on the whole time and cross fingers.

I've been waiting for the guys at Automotive Plus to come back to me with the list of parts they still have when they put a few kits together a couple of years ago. Apparently they didn't sell as many as they thought and so had some stuff left over. I believe their kits were based on the GT Plus kits and used an HKS supercharger and a custom ecu tune similar to the ECUTek that seems to be used by most people.

My back up plan if this doesn't materialise is the wolf racing kit that was linked to in this thread which looks good and seems a fair price.

I used to have a full workshop set up when I was racing clubmans in the UK but sold everything off when we made the move here 10 years ago and only now am I building up the workshop again so everything's taking a bit of time not helped by the fact I'm working flat out getting my business up and running http://www.mps101.com.

I think I've mentioned before that the most important thing for me is to have fun. It's not about lap times, but I do enjoy using them as a benchmark and all the mods I'm doing are either for fun, to enjoy modding or to make the car handle in a more enjoyable way for me. Almost all the decisions are a compromise, costs, fun, comfort, thrills, handling etc. These MX5's are such a great car for this sort of thing.

I understand that the Noosa end is, well, fraying a bit. I understand the event is a JV of some sort between a Brisbane club and a Noosa club, and there is some serious turmoil within the Noosa club. Presumably that had some effect on manpower, and potentially expertise.
