Dodgy day has closed, all cars left under their own steam and the dam remains car free.

One of the doggiest parts was fixing the broken wire on Gladiator's horn. The brains trust involved and the creative solutions was worth it, suffice to say there is a simple way to fix the broken wire...

Jobs done:
  1. Gladiator's dash
  2. ManiacLachy upper control arm swap. The V8 roadster arms are approx 200g lighter, the extra space where the damper goes is worth it. Especially if you have linear sensors...
  3. NZMiata - brake & clutch fluid change, slight height adjustment. Had one caliper bleed nipple that did not want to work. The clutch fluid well it could have passed for an espresso :)
  4. Lokiel's lamb - well bloody nice

At the end of the dodgy day I had to check a small E85 leak which showed itself when I started the car in the morning, but did not repeat when it was started after the end of dodgy day. However since I had to swap tyres it went up on stands for a check of the connections. Nothing really loose so I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks Mark, for hosting once again. Was a really good day. Great job on the wings too.
Also a great job on the lamb by Lockiel.

Thanks for hosting Magpie, even tho I was only a spectator. Seeing how easily the dash went in has reduced my apprehension about doing a NB into NA8 swap. And it was great to put some names to forum nics and meet a few old acquaintances.

Another great day thanks to Mark and the accommodating weather (the Sunday was a shocker, wet, cold and miserable - very "un-Queensland").

I was really struck by just how dry and brown it was in the surrounding country. Despite the rain from the day before, and a few days before that, there was NO new green grass growth and even no weed growth. The ground too was heavily/deeply cracked so there's virtually no surface moisture. I really can't comprehend how dry it must be further inland where they've had even less rain.

JBT asked about the smoked lamb and I showed him the Cobb smokers I use and am including info for anyone else interested:

For a ~1kg roast, I use 5 brickettes, let the roast cook for 10-15 minutes, then add water-soaked woodchips (the woodchips come in different flavours for lamb/beef, poultry and fish - I love smoked turkey too), and cook for another ~ 1.5 hours.

Smoked lamb doesn't really need any additional garnishing, the smoke flavour gives it plenty of "taste".

I purchased my 2nd one when BCF were clearing them out - they sell another version but the quality isn't as good.

That was quite funny, we had about 6 or 7 people looking at how to fix this seemingly simple problem - the horn wire had sheared off at the base of the solder "gob".
The steering wheel's horn wire goes through a hole in the steering wheel mount and is soldered on the other side to a large electrically insulated washer-type ring on the other side.
Re-soldering it wasn't going to work since the ring would not be able to be heated sufficiently with a soldering iron to bond with the solder and wire - if we could do that it would have melted the electrical insulator.
Tapping the hole was considered so we could drill a hole in the middle of a bolt, thread the wire through that to make contact with the inner rim, adding a gob of solder to the wire so that it wouldn't pull out, then screw the bolt in place.
Mark/Magpie then noticed you could see daylight in a couple of spots around the shielded ring so figured it could be prised out and replaced with one form a spare that he had on hand.
Luckily it was only held in place by something like that black sticky stuff used to hold your door-liners in place - a bit of a battle to get out but a major battle to clean up/off.
Mark's "spares" are invaluable!

I'm not sure if Lokiel will forgive me for putting 17" rims on my NA... however he may have found a new source for his 'lamb'.

Not sure what was the doggiest part of the day:
  1. Somebody asking me why they should not adjust their dampers using the lower collar as this is what the manufacture (Tein) recommends.
  2. The person who forgot to hook their sway bar up in the correct sequence, then realising they overlooked some steps in the sequence.
  3. The above horn wire.
  4. Somebody not having the address and looking on google maps for the dam picture that I posted. Surprisingly they found it!
  5. Moving the shell back into the shed at the end of the day.

Good part was no 10mm sockets/spanners were lost and heaps of water was consumed not to mention 2 lamb roasts, 3kg of chicken wing, home made biscuits and a few packets of chips.

Not sure of the next dodgy day event due to the approaching summer, however happy to help people when I have the time if they want to make the trip out to Purga.

And you were. Following on from where I got myself confused....

  1. RAISING any one corner will INCREASE the weight on that corner and slightly affect all other corners.
  2. LOWERING any one corner will DECREASE the weight on that corner and slightly affect all other corner.

This looks like a "STICKY" you need to pin up somewhere in the garage!
- it's too easy to confuse yourself with stuff like this unless it's written down right in front of you
(like when you're raising or lowering a shock winding and you alternate between doing it from above or below depending on access convenience, does clockwise raise or lower it?)

I'll admit to being that "somebody" haha. I'm happy to report that the car handles brilliantly with a complete lack of rubbing :mrgreen: The new ride height is exactly where I want it.
