SP CEL

Postby lambertius » Sat Sep 15, 2018 8:51 pm

I was wondering if someone can confirm my suspicion that when the SP was built they deleted the CEL?

I noticed it didn't turn on during the startup check, and figured the bulb was gone. I pulled it out and swapped it around with working globes and confirmed that only the CEL was not working and that it wasn't the globe.

Considering the way the engine has been setup, I figure its likely that when the car was setup the CEL was deleted. Can any other SP owner's confirm this?

Thanks!

NB8Bs didn’t have a CEL as far as I know.

SP wouldn't have CEL

2003 onwards so NB8C had the CEL. The SE's would have the CEL

Check Engine LIght.

Most often it's just an annoying blink to say that some obscure sensor that the car doesnt even need has had a fit and is reading wrong.

STMs CEL would be like a high beam.

Take it the CHARGE light & BRAKE light come on when you turn the ignition key to ON, before turning it to START?

I checked the CEL globe was working by swapping it into the position of the other working items. All other warnings on the dash do their startup check and work fine, so I know its not a busted globe.

The SP does not have a CEL.

Australian delivered NB8As/NB8Bs didn't have a CEL warning. As someone already pointed out here, the CEL didn't come until what most call the NB8C model (ie. from late 2003 onwards).

I believe this model is also the first MX-5 to get the OBDII Port (as opposed to the Mazda proprietary "Diagnostic" port of the NB8B).
