2.5 swap lets talk cams
Pretty much got everything needed to do this now (except a spare couple of weekends!) and have decided on a cam upgrade at the same time.
I've heard about Moto East's 1.5 cams but they seem a tad mild. I'm after a bit more, can be a bit lumpy but needs to still idle in traffic ok.
I was thinking I'd give Deckspeed a call but wondered if anyone on here had any other useful info?

Re: 2.5 swap lets talk cams
I had mine cams swapped. Deckspeed got me a set of mild cams. The engine is now smoother than the OE cams, revs better and levels the torque curve. BUT power hasn't changed much if at all.

Mines a 2011 Mazda 6 engine but below is the cams for the various engines and vehicles used for 2.5 swaps.
I haven't yet found out the profiles for the oem ones but I've heard some interesting info that the 2.0l cams are VERY similar in profile to the mild cams out there.

Thanks for that. I probably want to go a bit more aggressive but without the cam details it's hard to really know. However, I do think the main benefit will be shifting the torque higher up in the rev range for track use rather than massive power gains.
It's interesting that you found it smoother with the new cams?

It's much more usable now. Speak to deckspeed I know is about to do a more aggressive set than mine. Depending on how that works out I may do it as well

Had an email chat with Michael at Deckspeed and they do either the mild or race cams at the moment. The race cams would probably need new springs and be very lumpy so I might just go for the mild cams, it's not massive deal to swap cams but it is a decent chunk of cash assuming I can't then sell my existing ones.
As for the tuning, I think I've got this right in that I can instal the cams and load the base map from ECUtek using a cable supplied by Deckspeed and a pc/tablet, then drive around producing log files (stored on the pc/tablet) which I send to Deckspeed who then supply a more finely tuned map. Does that sound about right?

Re: 2.5 swap lets talk cams
I've decided to use the 2.0l cams and see how we go. Below are some numbers that show the 2.0 offers a fair bit of improvement over standard 2.5 cams and considering the cheapest cams are around $1500 delivered I'll bank the saving for now.
Standard 2.5 cams: 254 duration, 9.3mm lift
Standard 2.0 cam: 268 duration, 9.3mm lift
Cosworth 270 duration, 10mm lift
Dynotronics 264 duration, 10.1mm lift
Standard 2.5 cams: 254 duration, 9.3mm lift
Standard 2.0 cam: 268 duration, 9.3mm lift
Cosworth 270 duration, 10mm lift
Dynotronics 264 duration, 10.1mm lift

Do the 2.0L cams fit the 2.5? I was under the impression these blocks are now lazer cut like....every block is a different size or each block is proportionally sized depending on size.
edit* Maybe I'm thinking ND ...Not NC.

The cams should be matched to what you want from the engine as well as the head.
I assume that you are doing no head work?

Straight swap. I have to admit that I'm very tempted to just swap the 2.0 head over given I'm going SC it probably makes little difference that the 2.5 head outflows the 2.0.

No head work, keeping it simple and low cost
