So I have bought a Nb8b... for cheap!

This particular nb8b has some panel damage so I thought this would be the perfect candidate to swap absolutely everything into the clubman. I'm thinking driveline, subframes, vvt engine, interior and all electrics... The best of both worlds.

In saying that I will be parting out most of the NA... minus any crucial bits needed in the conversion. I will also sell off the remaining NB items, so please if you want first dibs on anything do let me know and I'll write your name down on my list of parts.

The conversion will most likely happen late June, early July.

Driveline is totally un neccecary. You have essentially alraedy got most of that plus more.
Ok brakes. For sure. ABS....ƒü¢k YEA....
VVT.....NIce touh. 10:1 cR....ohhhh boy.

But it aint a clubman anymore.
Apart from the sticker and manual steering.


Id keep the old engine....put it back in.....when the time comes

I'm not too worried about resale. I'd much rather modify and enjoy it.

I will probably use my nb8a stock wheels and sell the nb8b stock 16"s.

For the ease of the conversion I'll just be dropping both subframes with everything attached and replacing them with the NB setup.
Unfortunately when I bought the car the original engine had been replaced so I'm not too concerned about 'keeping it stock' or that it's not an 'original clubman' anymore. I'd rather just enjoy it for what it is and will be.

I would still be interested in the 16" wheels as long as they fit my NA8 and I can buy some decent tyres for them

I managed to sell the shell with panels and lights to a bloke who is planning to swap everything from his sons crashed mx5 into this one. Luckily he was nice enough to offer his workshop + tools to seperate the unibody from the driveline. In the near future I plan to split my clubman and get this conversion rolling. See below.

So quite a lot has happened since my last update... See below.



































So the last pic is how the car currently sits. I will be dropping the existing NA subframes this weekend and finishing odds and ends ready for the NB gear, which should be in, in the next couple weeks. I'm very excited about finishing this as it's been a couple months since driving it last.

Things I have to do still:
- Fuel system in engine bay
- wire up, door actuators, power mirrors and audio
- Modify NA catback exhaust
- Mount misc items in engine bay

One of my favourite ways to update an NA, apart from sticking in an SE engine.
That weird striped cam cover has got to go - stock would be good.

So another huge weekend went by. To start things off I picked up the nb8b 'skate' on saturday and started tearing it down. Swapping out the rear subframes was pretty easy and straight forward... Just jack it up in place. The front however was a little more annoying. I had to call in a friend for help as I was planning to lift up the front of the NA and slide the engine from the front back, as it would normally sit. That part was simple enough.. however lining everything up from this point forward was a pain. In the end Matt (sky blue Nb) and I eventually got it. See below.





















The bulk of the work is done which opens up a lot of windows for smaller jobs to be completed after work during the week. Hopefully it's pretty straight forward from here on.

So I'm about 95% done in terms of engine bay work and the car overall. The engine bay is mostly stock items minus the fuel pressure regulator. I removed the pulse dampener on the factory nb8b rail and installed some fittings to create the return line which mates up with the factory hardline after the FPR, Very simple system but works great... Until I noticed a fuel leak. I quickly found it was a leaky O-ring on one of the injectors. 4 New O-rings later and everything was working again leak free.

The headlight motors will have to stay up until I wire up a custom harness for the headlight motors. I'm thinking either use the foglamp switch in cabin or replace it and use something else.

I also picked up an extremely cheap hardtop for my missos car. The drive was awesome too.



I have a few parts coming in but overall i'm extremely happy with how the car performs and how simple this conversion was.

Off topic but has anyone here mounted a mountain bike to their mx5? Pic related, I want to mount this to the car in the future for transport.
