The V-6 is lighter than the standard four.

The Jag motor is appealing for the noise and because it's something a little different in the world of engine swaps, but the LFX (Commodore V6) would get my vote simply because more power! The 250hp (is that BHP or WHP? Never know with those Brits) or so they're expecting out of this doesn't seem worth the effort. But it is a much more plug and play compatible solution than the LFX, which needs a gearbox, diff, axles, driveshaft, etc, so cost and complexity aren't exactly equal.

I'm following the build of course :mrgreen:

Coupla observations;
-UK cars get a lot of corrosion from the grit they use to remove ice from roads
-that is a big ugly washer bottle in the front of the car
-he mentions an ABS sensor (in an NA).

Doing such a big job in a driveway is horrible, especially in a European heatwave.

European heatwave..

I was on MX5Nuts facebook page the other week and they were all complaining about the heat and how it was too hot to work on anything, I looked up london weather, it was 26*c. lol. How much nicer do they want it?

During the video it maxed at 35 degrees. Spain may exceed the record of 47!

I'm pretty sure you can swing a spanner if it's 35.

There are freckly redheads Roofing in summer in Australia.

Maybe I'm just being an arsehole because I don't understand this amount of effort for 180 wheel horsepower.

I don't think its a conversion where ultimate power is the goal. There are cheaper ways to go quicker/faster.
Cost is definitely the big stumbling block.
For someone who wants something a bit more unique with a different sound to your turbo 'ricer' Mx-5, then its an option and possibly (?) cheaper than the V-8 conversion here in Qld..

Will you be able to legally register an MX5 in NSW (or Australia) with an engine that has more cylinders and a displacement bigger than what it came with?

I was told in NSW, you can only have the same number of cylinders that the car was offered with, and a displacement not much bigger than it had (or was offered within the range).

That is the reason, Bullit cars had to be changed a bit so that they can show they have made enough changes to be able to re-register it as a different car (as Bullits) and not MX5s.


But what if I wanted it to keep it as an MX5, but put an LS3 V8 in it like they commonly do in the US (I particularly like the set-up that Tom (from Tom's Turbo Garage) did to his NB8B MX5 SE (aka Mazdaspeed)). Does anyone know if this conversation can be made road legal in NSW?
