Drift Knuckles: How much to cut?

Postby Jefferson » Fri Jul 27, 2018 9:08 pm

Hi all.

A boilermaker friend is helping me cut the knuckles for my drift car, as per this process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAe8iIUuszs

Does anyone on here know how much to remove?

Many thanks
Samuel

1 1/8" (28.5750mm) According to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn0kw_hJ8No Around 7:00

Although this is for custom tie rod ends so not sure if it would be the same for stock tie rod ends.
Thoughts?

Thanks Legume.

We ended up cutting 25mm off.
Feels like it is hitting something at full lock, Not sure if it was the tie rod or if the wheel was scrubbing.
Might be different after an alignment too. She's pretty sketchy with just the knuckles thrown back in without alignment

Pictures to come.

You need to track down Wazman (Warwick Fitzgerald) who has an NB8A set up for drift. He’s based in Vic. Not to be confused with Waz Man who is also a legend behind the wheel of an Mx5

Yeah, if I recall wazman has modded his to have heaps of lock available, to the point of having to modify the tie rod ends with a bend so that the tie rods and knuckle don't lock when they go parallel.
