Got the diff in but had to fit new wheel bearings at the last minute today. All sorted just in time for an early start tomorrow to get to Morgan Park! Will update on the diff but early signs are promising

Well that was an eventful day!
About an hour into the drive to Morgan Park (about 6am) i ran over an already dead roo. It ripped off my front spoiler and necessitated a road side repair. Luckily all my tools were in the trunk.

Anyway, i had to do the remaining hour with the roof down as the smell was overwhelming :( - it was maybe a tad above freezing that morning!
The event itself was terrific. Some awesome machinery turned up.

Loved the track even if the NC didn’t really work properly around it. Too much understeer and some nasty front axle skip.
The new alignment had the car turning in very sharply but it was the new diff that was the star turn.
It totally transforms the car, now it actually feels reasonably quick. I would estimate the car will be about 1 second quicker round Lakeside all things being equal.
On road the diff allows for much easier overtakes too.
I’m loving driving too and from the events and the drive back through the range to Brisbane at sunset was stunning.
The next day though I had the repellent task of cleaning the underside of the car- yuck!
Once clean, a quick spanner check revealed a hairline crack in a front rotor, my newly fitted front hub/wheel bearings are sha*ged already and there’s a slight weep from the diff, possibly a seal.
Oh well, a small(ish) price to pay for a great adventure and I may even have ended up 2nd fastest MX5 (on the short course) albeit several seconds slower than Magpie :D

That would be Chris Battista with a 1:13.395 :)

A bit of a pain that you can only tweak the car with tyre pressures :(

Watching to see what changes you make and the times get faster!

Did I say 2nd? I meant 3rd
As the financial controller drives the NC to the station everyday I can’t go too stiff on the suspension but I’d really like some adjustability so going to have to bite the bullet and get some adjustable suspension and sways.

Is it a short drive to the train station?

The alternative is to get a few sets of springs and swap to track springs when needed.

I have some interesting data on damper velocities that I'm looking so a decision can be made of springs/valving. Will made a detailed post on this, it will be data and possibly math intensive!

Yeah the springs and sways aren't balanced at the moment. I must admit though I'm not really a maths/data person but any help is appreciated.

I'll do a follow up post analysing the issues with handling a bit more later but in the meantime there's an onboard lap.

Sounds like a bit of tyre rub. Also see the understeer you were talking about.

That RX8 front arb is a monster. The factory bars should reduce the understeer.

Yup, I think this is at the heart of the issue. I'm going to revert back to the factory front bar.

The below vid shows the problem quite well.

As a few people have suggested, the NC works best with stiff springs and standard bars, mine is the other way round.

Oem front sway back in. Going to leave the rx8 rear bar in for now. For weight weenies the RX8 bar is approximately 1kg heavier.
Also put the oem muffler back on. The Cobra Race muffler just had too much drone. I might put it back on for event weekends.
Massive size difference, only a 3 kg weight difference. The Cobra is very well made compared to the oem one.

Oh yeah i could imagine the drone witch that Cobra muffler

Best bet is to go for the GWR super Q. Awesome sound and no drone

So when can I order a fastback for my NC

No performance mods this month but at least I’m now legal in Qld :D
