Unfortunately it seems these days size of the car is irrelevant. People simply don't look and if they don't look then it could be a B double just as easily. I drive a Ford Ranger as my daily, not a small car by any means but I still get people pulling out in front of me or merging in to me. Almost had a Toyota Echo as a new front badge just yesterday. Driving standards have dropped massively in the past 20 years as people have become distracted and adopted an "it's the other persons problem" attitude. That's why I run dashcams now, additional evidence for the inevitable.

In theory it might even cause more stress to a drivers task. My neighbour has a Ranger and I was shocked at the cost of a windscreen which has a collision warning feature- expect maybe higher insurance costs and a wait time to get some things replaced. One thing I am convinced about is that the reducing road toll is about safety features in cars ( as STM acknowledges) - the big ticket ones- multiple air bags, much better braking, skid control and probably almost nothing to do with lower speed limits. The Govt and Police can thank the car maker for safer cars. I drifted into another lane here- sorry guys the alarm did not go off.

I agree totally with you..
Also with all the extra gadgets more to go wrong with the vehicle, more labour intense expense !!!

Hi everyone!

Just joined this forum.... lots of good info.

I'm looking at buying a 2017 MX5 ND GT Soft top 2.0.

Whats the general feel with these? I've read some good reviews and also come across some owners having gearbox issues with the 6spd manual?? Have they been around long enough to get a general gauge of build quality etc??

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

How did you get so cynical, Bruce?

You've probably frightened him off. You were the school bully, right?

Maybe the OP realised there's a refresh coming with 184bhp, even more fruit and no downsides, so decided to have a breather. :?:

*edit* - to respond to Wivvix

I've been back a few times  but thought this topic had veered out of the lane and figured oh well.

I ended up signing on the dotted line for an MY18, delivery "sometime in September". The test drive sealed the deal for me, as well as the (literally) thousands of reviews I read/watched (no, I do absolutely not suffer from a severe case of confirmation bias). The Minister for Home Affairs isn't particularly pleased "how are you going to drop the kids at Netball in that??" (I'll just make two trips?) but I'm sure it'll grow on her.

Bruce - not sure if it was school holidays (who can remember these things), but hopefully this post improves my standing, and once I take delivery, I can participate more meaningfully? :D

Wivvix - I saw the 184bhp stuff (has Mazda confirmed that yet?), but given everyone loves it as it is now, that was more than good enough for me. I didn't want to get trapped in the "oooh, the MY20 has x, y and z, I must wait for that" cycle and so never join the club!

Facts are that an ND is strictly a toy - a little car with negligible practicality. Dont hold your breath about the Minister for Home Affairs seeing the virtues of a car that is designed for entertainment.
