A common thing with the earlier model mx5 is the parker bulb sockets deteriorating.
Here is a quick DIY on socket replacement.
First remove the plastic clip with a small bladed screwdriver.
Next pry out the rubber seals from rear of socket.
Next insert a small flat bladed screwdriver in from the rear to depress the tang that secures the terminal in place
Once this is done you can push the connector forward through the socket.
There are two ears that will need to be bent inwards to allow the terminal to be pulled out of the socket
Once you have both wires out of socket you can then insert the terminals in through a replacement socket.
You will need to bend the ears back straight and make sure the little tang that secures the terminal is bent out also
You can then pull the terminal back into socket to secure it in place. Remembering to replace the rubber grommets will see you finished.

Re: How to replace broken parker light sockets
Thanks, Dan, this is something I need to do on one of mine. Have you seen the sockets available for purchase (new) or is it a matter of scrounging from a wreck?

Re: How to replace broken parker light sockets
I usually scrounge from other cars. Something to look out for when in the wreckers yard.
I am sure Jaycar offer a similar socket that is close but i couldn't find it in the latest catalogue.
The sockets differ a little throughout year models. The type pictured are the most annoying to de-pin and i figured I'd do a qucik write up whilst i was in there.
Edit: Jaycar part no. SL2661 is a close fit with pigtails to simply crimp on.
Also side indicators from astinas, ford lazers and the like will work.
