I think it’s probably a bit too loud in its regular configuration. I love it since my SE is now a second car, but when I was using it everyday it did get on my nerves at times. I’m sure Dann has a solution for guys who want it to be a bit quieter for touring. Sounds great on the stock ECU though! Lots of crackles and pops!

It's on the limit of legal, but I can fit a bigger muffler than standard too.

I'm using a magnaflow on my 3in, I reckon it is marginal, but I have my old 2.5in system as a standby, it was on the car when I transferred the rego over and I kept it for that purpose.
Can't speak for Dann's system, but mine is fine for touring.

Dann, I figured you'd be able to pretty much work it out to suit. I guess the other question is if a 2.5" would be better, or even if it's worth it at all??

If volume is a serious concern I would taper down to 2.5" at the rear muffler and use a very large body 2.5", the performance will be the same and the volume will be pretty low. Smaller pipe works ok on the very rear because the gases are cooling and shrinking as they travel down the exhaust.

Hmmm, that might be a solution for the complaints I'm getting from the passenger seat.
Any particular 2.5" muffler you'd recommend Dann?

Sounds like a good compromise. So would this still give a nice sporty "rorty" note? I don't mind a bit more volume than stock, just don't want it to become over intrusive on long drives. Interestingly, just earlier today, I noticed that from outside my car my mostly stock system sounds really very ordinary! Hadn't ever heard it go down the road before and it's so quiet! You get what I am saying right? I could literally tell you how many decibels it would be (about 86-87@4000rpm, 1.5M distance from tailpipe) But I cannot tell you if that level suits your taste.

I asked Dann to build me a varex muffler, it is fantastic for stealth mode and motorsport use.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Yeah sorry Dann ... like asking will this car suit me, will I be happy with these coilovers, what should I wear today!!?? Have good info now anyway, but probably best I divert away from this for a while until I'm thinking clearer. Do people install the MAC 3 port Solenoid even on an OEM ECU or generally only if you run aftermarket ECU? And just to confirm, this is the item at the front of the rocker covers?

Stock with oem ecu. MAC with standalone ecu.
They dont flow the same amount of air at the same duty cycles so the ecu needs to be setup exactly right for the right valve.

Welcome to the SE club and the addiction to modding
I bought an SE with the basic intake, MBC, intercooler and exhaust mods already on it, and it was a lot of fun. I eventually took the car to Dann for an ECU, injectors and intake upgrade amongst other things, and it has become a much better car, although my wallet is also considerably lighter
If you wanted to go down the path of modding it in stages, I happen to have the AEM CAI that came off my car for sale.
Good luck with it all.
