I want it done professionally, I need it reliable and worthwhile, if I chose a turbo, also I would pay to get it done properly.

I have ordered the diff gears from the USA, I will see how that pans out as well. The parts were cheap $250AUD shipped. Now to find a diff shop to do the swap

No offence, I actually don’t have much of a clue, certainly not a professional like you. However, the good thing about this forum is that it isn’t Turbo Miata.net and long may it stay that way. :D

As I’m about to do it myself I’m just trying to learn and from all the info out there it doesn’t look a hard swap.

I paid $500 for my engine, I already have the 2.0l and I’ve read a few threads listing the additional parts needed so it seems a simple swap but as I said, I’m genuinely interested in the best way to go about it and I genuinely don’t know about the ECU hence the question.

If the OP wants to get the work done by a shop good on him, hope he posts back how much fun he’s having when it’s all done.

Duane built my diff ages ago, really nice guy and super good work.

Worth noting, I dont believe he has the gear to do the lash etc himself (well, he didnt when I got my diff a few years ago)
But, he does have a local workshop he works with that he gets to do that bit.

If you do send it to him have a chat about having the diff rebuilt (new bearing etc) while it's there, he does an amazing job at that.

I just spent the day at sandown, I like the way the gearing fits mylack of ability, having second thoughts about lowering the gear ratios. For the road it would be great but not sure how I will like the extra gear changes at sandown.

It's unlikely you'll need to downshift any more times than you did before and even if you do need to upshift on the very odd ocassion where you didn't before it's not like upshifting is difficult.

The drive out of the corners will make up for it in spades and make the car a bit more forgiving if you don't want to downshift to the most optimal gear where a corner could be one gear or anouther.

I was a pessimist about doing a 4.1 swap and didn't think it would make much of a difference but I was pleasantly surprised after I did it on my NC.

I have to make an apology, Ive done a little research and it genuinely can be done quite simply, but it still isnt quite a bolt in affair.

I looked at doing it myself, on the face of it it seems straight forward. My issue is ,I am not a mechanic, pulling bits of one engine to put on another, removing and swapping steering,ac etc is a little daunting. Messing around with the heads isn't as simple as it reads and most importantly making it all safe.
The engine tune is a massive part of the swap, I wouldn't consider it worth doing if the engine wasn't tuned for it's new home, again well beyond me.

I admire the guys that DIY but I am not that confident or capable as I want this as a daily driver

getting much closer now. Just sorting out dates for the journey. I put my car on a dyno yesterday. Goodwin headers, mid and a 5zigen rear, laile/beatrush cai and a ecu remap . Managed a whole 95.7kw on a dynodynamics dyno  . i hope to hit 115 or better with the new motor. I also have 4.1 diff gear coming .

Why would you waste your time and money dynoing your car with such simple mods? It's never going to be a fire-breathing monster.

Sorry that's incorrect.

I am not sure what the internal parts are on either engine. I just hope to get more power and torque in a reliable package.
