so if an oil flush is essentially watered down oil..... isn't that gonna increase engine wear which is what oil is essentially trying to prevent?

You coukd run it on wd40 with no water in it if it was just sitting idling for 5 minutes.

You dont drive with it in.

You pour it in, run car at idle for maybe 10min max, and then shut it off and drain the oil out.

Thinned down oil still lubricates, just not as well as the correct viscosity.
But, at idle there's nowhere near the forces at play as when driving etc, plus it's only for a short period.

You dont drive with it in.

fair enough.

i just saw all those responses refuting what i said so i was gonna get my internet forum popcorn out but it was a false alarm lol

i think manufacturer recommendations as a guide are great but if some small diff on brands/intervals will make or break a motor i think is irrelevant to your average mx5 street car....

most important thing i saw mentioned is for about $50 - $100 for a oil & filter change is it really worth it but to push intervals or spend hundreds more on some you bute ultra exxy oil IMHO, unnecessary

and yes there def more oil knowledgeable peeps on here than me, respect

We run cars that make 450whp on Penrite HPR5.

Because its a quality full syth in the right grade and it's at Repco.

Stress less guys.

Yeah, i'm with Dann here.
Plus, the B6/BP isnt fussy, even the owners manual shows a very broad range of viscosity are ok to use.

I'm a big believer in using an OK to good oil and changing it often rather than an expensive (supposedly amazing) oil and leaving it longer between changes.

I'm on a roll. I usually use Castrol, have for decades. Along with deciding to try an engine flush for the first time I also picked Penrite oil to try for the first time as it was said to be Aussie owned and made plus a fair bit cheaper (almost half I think) than Castrol Edge I normally use.

Yep, I use HPR 5 in all three cars. Buy it at Supercheap Auto when on special and usually have 5 litres on hand. You can often pick it up for around $47 for 5 litres at SCA or Repco at sale times.

Has always been my practice, and less of a trade-off these days with the regular specials on quality product. I’m happy with Castrol / Shell / Valvoline ‘high mileage’ oil for my NA6, changed out every 6 months.

I use " insert brand" and found it terrific. It has a great smell our of the can and my dog wags it tail as well. Great colour as well when you hold it up to the light and also has the texture of olive oil - but if does not taste that good on the steak. I know its the best because the nice man on the TV told me so and also guys on forums say so as well despite not having any practical proof that one is better than another for general duties. Anyone done a Phd on this- probably and it would be 10 volumes and you nod off after chapter 1.
Fairdinkum- just change the oil based on the recommendations and maybe the thing will last another 25 years especially if its rarely dríven.
