Vanishing Clutch Fluid

Postby Cus » Sat Mar 10, 2018 10:15 pm

Greetings!

My clutch fluid is vanishing slowly over the course of 4ish weeks. I've topped it up a couple of times, and can't find any leaks on the ground - but clearly it's going somewhere.

Where should I look?

I can't see anything leaking from the reservoir, and the rear main seal also leaks, so if it's coming out that end, it's kinda camouflaged.... but it isn't bad enough to actually get oil to the ground though, so it's kinda hard to locate.

It’s normally either the master or slave cylinder, have a look at the carpet near the clutch pedal inside the car or pull back the rubber boot on the slave cylinder and have a look there.

NA slave cylinders are fairly much a consumable - replaced my leaking 1993 original after 12 years & got about 10 years out of it's replacement. Of course, there are variables, so will differ.

Update to this: it was indeed the slave cylinder - replacement showed up today, so I've got some playing to do on the weekend!
