Mazdaspeed Miata Oil Cap

Postby Luke » Thu Mar 01, 2018 6:03 pm

Hey Guys

I have a Mazdaspeed Miata Oil Cap, the silver one they fitted to 04/05 MSM's in the US that they did not fit here.
I have read in the past that people loose the grub screw that is used to centre the logo.
Guess what, mine has fallen out to, most likely when I flat spotted some tyres.

Does anyone know what the thread size is for that grub screw?

I can't seem to search it although I am sure I have read what it is before.
I already worked out it is not 5/32 or 3/16.
I had some 4mm bolts which seemed right but the pitch must be wrong as it jams really early.

I would rather not re-thread it.

I'm not sure what it might be, but if you find out let me know. I bought a big box of various grub screws and if I have it I'll send you the one you need.

Luke, take it to a specialty fasteners place, they will sort it in five minutes flat (after you wait for 25 mins!). There is a place here called Specialty Fasteners, but I think it only the one shop, but Sinny should have a dozen 8)

Only one away from the big 2k - should I be excited?
I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

NB SE - gone to the dark side (and loving it 8) )

Not a fan of of the MSM oil cap, mine always leaked which is not uncommon if you visit the mazda-speed.com forum (it's now read-only so you can still search it).

For everyone's reference I now know the thread.
5/32 BSW
I got access to an orignal one, and as soon as my dad saw the grub screw he said it was 5/32 BSW witout needing any thread guide to tell him.
I guess it helped that he also knew it was not 5/32 UNC or M4x0.7.
Already have 2 grub screws, very convenient being 5 minutes from a big industrial area.
Next time it is going in with a little Loctite.
