My new 2018 MX5 Ltd ED RF

Postby Pete » Sun Mar 04, 2018 11:09 pm

Here she is. Two tone pearl white RF. One of the best looking cars on the road. The RF design is so successful that, for the first time, the MX5 looks like a convincing coupe. Some people would be none the wiser.
Image

It was instant love the moment I saw her. The regular RF, although great, just lacked the really high end goodies like forged wheels. A great sports cars not only needs to perform well, but also needs to look the goods when parked. This one certainly does.
Image

I need to get better pictures because every single photo is inadequate in conveying just how pretty she is. The car looks sensational. It's the most unique looking MX5 ever. It's so unlike every MX5 you have ever seen. So much better than red or grey. The main reason is its two tone nature. Lol, I had never seen snowflake pearl white when I ordered her.
Image

I tried to objectively picture which colour would suit the car the most irrespective of colours I like as such Get it? The car looks better than I ever imagined.
Image

One thing the RF design desperately needed was a little dose of aggression. The forged wheels, red caliper brembos and aero kit did the trick.
Image

The cabin is great but it needed the recaros for that authentic sports car look and feel.

Why I hate black rims:

Doesn't matter what you paid for your black rims or how good they look in isolation, when mounted on the car they look no different than black hubcaps because they just disappear into the black tyre and wheel well.

Given how much publicity this car has been given by Pete, I wonder how POed he is about this: https://www.motoring.com.au/mazda-set-to-give-the-mx-5-more-power-111394/?

Surely this news will kill off any ND sales until the next generation is available?
I certainly wouldn't buy a new ND now and be happy to wait for the next one.

What percentage of buyers are enthusiasts to less 'enthusiastic' owners ? I'd certainly hold out for ND2 once specs are confirmed.

( pistol )

Pete Your advertorial looks ok but it's missing a few bits of important information.

Drive away price ?

And which dealership in Sydney so we can at least haggle on price with you if we wanted one ?

Perhaps get Debby from detailing to do the next ad ?

For me it's a no deal (Black wheels belong on old Belmonts and the like ),Boring colours and a possible power up grade coming.

I'll stick with my old bomb for a while yet.

My guess would be 95% of buyers are non-enthusiasts. That's perfect for us as we want to stand out from the crowd. I value performance but I also love the bona-fide sports car aesthetic. To me, the Ltd Ed RF is the whole package, and at this price point, it isn't lacking for anything. The extra premium on top ($5000) was money well spent. However, the other MX5s lack the quality parts.

Interesting points. I don't totally disagree about black rims. I made the very same point. But........and this is an important but.......the car is two tone black and the rims are aesthetically consistent with the rest of the car. The car looks spectacular, better than any other mx5 you can think of.

I'm not as upset as you might think about the rumoured power upgrade for next year. Firstly, I have already waited 3 years for the right ND and didn't want to wait any more. Life is too short for that. Second, I'd need to wait more years for a special limited edition upgraded mx5. No way! This current Ltd Ed mx5 is whole and complete. A very cool, true and authentic sports car, namely, a bit rough on shitty roads but oh so heavenly around corners. Third, this car belongs to my wife and she don't care. Four, it's more than likely that I'll be getting the Nismo 370z at the end of the year. TBH, my regular 370z absolutely annihilates the Ltd Ed RF. on any measure you care to mention.

Why do people still doubt we bought this car?
Forget about negotiating on a Ltd Ed RF. We bought the car at John Newell, Alexandria for $55,790. Our MX5 is the most unique looking MX5 of all time. Never mind the power upgrade, the car belongs to my better half. I'll most likely be getting the Nismo 370z, with a very healthy 340hp, a superb power to weight ratio of 4.2kg and handling tuned by the masters at Nismo.

With purely city driving in the eastern suburbs of sydney, the computer is showing 10.2 lt per 100kms. I think that's very good. Weight is, I imagine the same as a RG GT, which is 1106kg. One of the best things about the car is its lightness and it's one of the many things my wife loves about the car. It's a great chick's car, no doubt about it, quite possibly the ultimate chick's car. Women love it. I'll stick to my classic 370z.

Huh??? You said the 370z was better by any measurement. Pretty sure the mx5 is much better on fuel and weight. As for the rest of your subjective comments........ ive had many fast cars and would happily drive an mx5 over a 370z any day of the week. To each their own i guess

Oh my bad, I thought we were talking performance only, in which case, I'm right and you're wrong.

Thanks.

No, thank goodness, it's not a glass roof. That would add too much weight, which is very uncool. Luxury is very opposite to sportiness, which is far more pure. TBH, I kinda pushed that viewpoint onto my wife, but if I didn't, she'd be happy with some overladen, overburdened, overlarded feature rich fwd hatch. Yuk!
