Ive alwYs loved hard tops on the NA. I really dint mind putting it on on a friday night looking for a fight. Quite a different experience. But then i aslo loved putting down tge roof on a friday night to grt that.im on holidays kind of feeling.

I can truthfully say for a good 10-12 years the roof came off on every drive....apart from those occasional drives where hard top waz fitted. I hate how the soft top wears out. Thats what i like about the NC. Hard top convsrtible.

I have yet to experience the ND.

I'm basically a "Coupe" guy. I'd have much preferred an MX5 Coupe. My HT has never been removed in the time I have had the car.
A folding HT however - like the NC - would be the optimum format and I would then actually drive with the top down in early morning and late evening when I wouldn't get fried. I would love to have that option.
The ND folding HT isn't pretty (to my eyes) and I don't like the complicated way it folds. The NC was a pretty good solution IMHO and looked nice.
The NC folding roof on the NB would have been great.

Rocky, sounds like you've currently got the HT lead. Bought & installed HT in mid 2004 after ST was cut by someone wanting to get into the car - not that there was anything in it. Insurance company agreed to HT replacing ST, so left it that way since, although with move to Vic less need to leave it on, but then I'd need to find storage for HT & refit an ST.

I originally bought an NA HT for a couple of grand from Sydney. Had it painted for another grand. Found the adjusting bolts were stripped, so replaced them, another couple of hundred. About $3K all up. It had the demister lead - I have never had the need to use the rear window demister. Love my HT.

Yeah, my white NB8A HT cost $2k also [in 2004], but was same colour as the NA8, so nothing more to spend. Likewise, never used the demister.

You were lucky to get one the right colour. I believe they originally came in black - so you could choose to leave it alone and let it mimic the soft-top.
They weren't real easy to get when I bought mine and I had a choice of white or black and so took the white.
It wasn't cheap to freight it up from Sydney, a couple of hundred I think.
A relative who owed a paint and panel shop did a really nice job without removing the rear window - which he regarded as a bit risky.

Indeed, the original HT here was matt black with no padding or demister - didn't realise mimicing the ST was an objective, but makes sense. Doubly lucky as I only had to drive from CBR to SYD, fit it & drive back.
