What power will I be producing

Postby dzammit85 » Thu Feb 08, 2018 3:33 pm

So I’m just curious as to what sort of power I’ll be producing with my car once I’ve finished with it. It’s a nb8b, and this is what I’ve done to it so far

Dual core 52mm radiator
All new fuel lines and flex sensor for e85
id725
Dw300 fuel pump
Wideband
Skunk2 throttle body
Magnecor spark plugs
Lightweight flywheel
And HD exedy clutch

And then just the turbo
Which is
Gt2560r
Nitrodann twistmount
And a full 3 inch exhaust

I’m just curious so I know what numbers to expect when it goes to the dyno. Thanks

I personally would be comfortable guaranteeing at least 250rwhp with a goal of 270rwhp if I were the tuner, but your tuner will probably break the engine at those numbers because it relies on careful management of the delivery of boost, you cant just screw 15psi in with a manual boost control because 15psi at 4500rpm will bend the rods.

You should make over 150rwkw by 10psi. Past that it depends how much the boost you put in, 15psi at redline is good for 200rwkw easy.

Please dont just ask your tuner to turn it up until it makes 200rwkw though, it will break, you need to keep boost <12psi at 4500rpm or so and under 15psi by redline to keep the motor together.

This all assumes timing and fuel is right, of course.

"All new fuel lines and flex sensor for e85
id725"
Aren't larger injectors recommended for corn?
- or is that only for >270rwhp builds?

"Skunk2 throttle body"
- make sure you port your intake manifold with this TB for best performance, Loctite all screws and there's also a mod for the throttle stop to prevent wear (search MT.net for more info regarding this).

Also, what ECU are you using?

What power will I be producing

Postby dzammit85 » Thu Feb 08, 2018 4:46 pm

Ok thanks Dann, I was aiming for around for the 190kw to 200kw mark, so that’s good to hear, hopefully the tuner is capable of producing them numbers.

Yeah lokiel I’m pretty sure you’d just get the 1000s for higher hp cars, I done a bit of reading, and seemed that for something like what I’m trying to build 725’s were good enough to do the job

I also done some research on the port and polish too, but I’m tossing up whether I should just get the Skunk2 manifold. I’ll just have to wait and see if I can afford it once I’ve finished buying the rest of the turbo stuff

And the ecu is a adaptronic select

Porting the intake manifold isn't hard, just make sure you use carbide bits and take your time with it. The carbide bits eat very quickly through aluminium so use light, circular strokes and take your time. The mismatch from the TB to the intake manifold is significant and will affect airflow significantly so you should definitely port the intake manifold - or keep your OEM TB.
My efforts detailed here: http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=41091&start=97

If you do decide to buy the Skunk2 manifold, send me a PM, I can save you the international postage fee.
I bought one believing it would outperform my ported square-top manifold since it doesn't have the narrowing channel from the TB to the main chamber of the intake manifold - real-world testing on MT.net showed that it barely does, but only above 7,000+rpm :(
It does look the goods though and is better than my OEM SE's VTCS manifold, plus it has plenty of ports for a boost gauge, ECU boost source and BOV.

Anywhere between 1 and 1000 RWKW...

Seriously as others have said it is all tune dependent. It also depends on reliability and how long you want the engine too last.

No boost, 140 RWKW and over 10,000 track kms.
